Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator This is a temporary grant funded position with an anticipated end date of December 18, 2026. 8 hours per day, 10 months per year We appreciate your interest in employment with Vancouver Public Schools (VPS). In cooperation with the leadership team, the coordinator will establish and implement a site action plan to alleviate mental health and wellness barriers to student learning. The Coordinator will become a key communicator of resources and support. Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in social or human services, education, human development, psychology, social work or related field and two (2) years of experience working in an education or social service setting. Experience working with economically, culturally, and linguistically diverse populations. Fluent in Spanish (highly desired). Experience writing proposals for small grant opportunities and funding requests (preferred). Demonstrate knowledge of mental health resources in the community. Demonstrate knowledge of school-based student support programs. Experience working with adolescents experiencing barriers to academic success. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Knowledge of local, state, and federal resources to support low-income and under-represented populations. Proven ability to prioritize day-to-day programming and responsive to emergent issues and concerns. Consistently treat others with respect. Expend and monitor resources in accordance with policies and procedures. Willingness to contribute ideas and resources as part of a dynamic team. Excellent communication skills (written, oral, and visual materials). Strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with school personnel, partners, parents and students. Committed to planning, implementing, documenting and reporting activities that support of District key performance indicators. Proficient working in a PC platform, but not limited to Microsoft Office products and cloud based software. Ability to compose professional correspondence. Ability to attend local meetings and share information as a representative of the school and district as assigned. Other Requirements Valid driver’s license and possess reliable transportation as travel may be required to and from school locations. Regular attendance to carry out duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements. Essential Functions Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents, and others with dignity and respect at all time. Serve as a positive role model for students, and practice the behaviors that are expected of our students. Work in a flexible and cooperative manner. In collaboration with school administrator, FCRC leadership, and site based FCRC, develop a site action plan that will help alleviate mental health and wellness barriers to student learning. Conduct group based mentoring related but not limited to: grief and loss, anxiety, divorce, LGBTQIA+ etc. Act as a staff advisor for affinity groups who don’t already have one (e.g. Black Student Union, Gay Straight Alliance, etc.). Act as key connector and referral point for mental health and chemical dependency counseling. Host afternoon out-of-school time clubs and events Create and/or support transition initiatives for 5th to 6th grade, 8th to 9th grade, and 12th grade and beyond for students and their adults. Facilitate adult/parent groups and classes around wellness and social emotional health. Serve on student support teams as needed. Be a key communicator, sharing the vision for community schools. Encourage enrichment and engagement activities that promote equity. Connect with families and share community resources. Attend community meetings and share information. Participate in school committees and decision-making bodies. Achieve program objectives in compliance with professional standards, and in accordance with district policies and the community schools vision outlined by the National Coalition of Community Schools. Collect data, administer surveys and conduct other evaluation tasks as required. Participate in monthly meetings and trainings as scheduled by supervisor. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities assigned by supervisor. It is understood VPS has the right to transfer and assign employees to best fit the needs of the district. The position is grant funded, currently only authorized through 12/18/26. Benefits/Compensation Salary & Time Off: New employees start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees with verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Educational Service Districts may receive experience credit toward salary placement. Time Off: Vancouver Public Schools offers paid holidays and paid time off, including but not limited to, sick, vacation, personal, and bereavement leave. Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE). Personal Leave: 3 days per school year Twelve (12) month full‑time Pro Tech employees are eligible to accrue ten (10) days vacation at one (1) - five (5) years of service.
