POSITION SUMMARY:  

The CAD Designer / Mechanical Designer supports TruBlue Technologies' Product Engineering Team by translating engineering concepts into fully detailed and documented, manufacturing-ready designs. This role is primarily responsible for creating and maintaining 3D models and 2D drawings using GD&T in SolidWorks, BOM’s, and associated documentation. This role will also evaluate designs through hands-on assembly, fit checks, testing, and evaluation of prototype and production components. This position works with cross-functional teams including engineering, quality, procurement, operations, and marketing. 

The CAD Designer position requires a self-starter with a minimum 5 years of experience designing mechanical components and assemblies for consumer or industrial products. Strong Solidworks modeling skills, solid 2D drafting practices, and a working knowledge of GD&T and practical manufacturing tolerances are required. The ideal candidate will be familiar with various manufacturing processes (particularly machining, injection molding, sheet metal stamping/forming) and possess the ability to complete basic tolerance stack-up analyses and integrate DFMA into designed components. The position requires high mechanical aptitude and the ability to work through complex problem logically and independently. The ability to manage multiple design tasks/projects, competing priorities, work efficiently under schedule pressure, and communicate clearly with engineers, vendors, and machinists will be beneficial to this position. 

This is a temp to hire position reporting to the Product Engineering Manager, based in our Louisville, CO headquarters. The ability to reliably commute is required. Relocation assistance will not be offered for this position. 

ESSENTIAL CAD DESIGNER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Objective/Measurement -- Completion of assigned tasks within designated timeframe, established at regular 1 on 1’s and within annual action planning processes.  

The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical aptitude, expertise in SolidWorks, and is comfortable moving between the computer and the workbench. Climbing and/or work-at-height experience is a plus.

• Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings in Solidworks for new and existing products 
\n
• Apply GD&T per manufacturing process capabilities to define functional tolerances and support tolerance stack-up analyses 
\n
• Generate and maintain BOMs and controlled documents utilizing SolidWorks PDM and ECN process 
\n
• Build, fit-check, and evaluate 3D printed and rapid prototypes and production assemblies by hand to validate design intent 
\n
• Support First Article Inspections and identify design or drawing changes based on hands-on evaluation 
\n
• Translate engineering sketches, redlines, and verbal design intent into production-ready CAD models and drawings 
\n
• Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and vendors to resolve fit, form, and function issues during development 
\n
• Support assembly instructions (SOPs), inspection documents (QC sheets), and other technical documentation 
\n
• Collaborate with the procurement team on prototype and sample components, including basic vendor communication on drawings 
\n
• Occasional support of verification testing setups and test fixture design 
\n

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate's degree or technical certificate in Mechanical Design, Drafting, CAD Technology, or a related field; Bachelor's degree a plus 
\n
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a mechanical / CAD designer, ideally supporting new product development and with experience in manufacturing / mechanical assembly.  
\n
• Expertise in SolidWorks, including part modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings 
\n
• Working knowledge of GD&T and basic tolerance stack analysis 
\n
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and logical problem solving, with comfort performing hands-on assembly, disassembly, and evaluation of hardware 
\n
• Solid understanding of standard drafting practices: dimensioning, tolerancing, section/detail views, and BOM structure 
\n
• Familiarity with common manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, and/or forging 
\n
• Basic hand tool proficiency for prototype builds and fixture assembly 
\n
• Basic familiarity with metrology equipment including calipers, height gauge, go/no-go gauges, micrometers, etc.

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills across multiple design tasks and conflicting priorities 
\n
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to interpret and convey design intent to engineers, machinists, and vendors 
\n
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment 
\n
• Legal authorization to work in the US without sponsorship is required for this position 
\n

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

• $60,000 - $90,000 base annual salary 
\n
