Position Overview

NuWest is seeking an experienced Phlebotomist for a 13 week assignment. In this role, you will perform routine blood draws and specimen collection for an adult and pediatric patient population ages 2 and older, supporting laboratory operations in a fast-paced clinical environment. The ideal candidate works independently, follows strict infection control and safety protocols, and brings proficiency across all aspects of specimen collection and processing.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine venipuncture and capillary blood draws on adult and pediatric patients ages 2 and older with accuracy and minimal patient discomfort
• Collect, process, label, and route specimens in accordance with laboratory and organizational protocols
• Assess patient vital signs as needed and maintain proficiency in specimen collection techniques across all patient age groups
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient health records and laboratory documentation
• Work independently in compliance with safety policies, organizational procedures, and industry infection control standards
• Demonstrate knowledge of SDS materials and proper use of emergency equipment within the facility
• Assist with supply inventory management to ensure consistent availability of necessary phlebotomy supplies
• May provide instruction and guidance on phlebotomy procedures for new employees as needed

Required Qualifications

• Current national certification in Phlebotomy from an approved certifying organization, OR a Certificate/Diploma and transcripts from an accredited Phlebotomy program with a completed hands-on externship (fully online programs are not acceptable)
• Experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection on pediatric patients ages 2 and older
• Current AHA, ARC, or equivalent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with hands-on training for healthcare providers
• Must be able to pass required background checks and drug screening
