About the Role

As a Facilities & Utilities Technician you will support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of facility and plant utility systems throughout Beech-Nut Nutrition's manufacturing facility. This position works across both building and utility systems, including HVAC, boilers and steam systems, compressed air, water systems, air handling equipment, cooling towers, pumps, and related mechanical and electrical equipment. You will perform preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and operational activities while developing technical proficiency across the facility's systems. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, and outside service providers.

About the Team

The Facilities Team is comprised of technical individuals from various maintenance and engineering disciplines who work collaboratively to support Beech-Nut Nutrition's LEED certified production facility. The team's core mission is to maintain the building systems and grounds and to support the efficient operations of the plant and continuous improvement projects. The team works closely with Operations and Maintenance Teams to increase reliability processes so we can continue doing what we do best making high quality, safe, and nutritious foods for babies and toddlers!

About the Work Environment

This position is located at the Amsterdam, New York LEED certified production facility. Job functions are performed throughout the facility and grounds, including mechanical and utility spaces, production support areas, and rooftops. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying environmental and weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain snow, wind and other seasonal conditions. The candidate will also be required to work in an environment that requires a hairnet, beard cover, safety glasses, hearing protection and lab coat. Restrictions include wearing of jewelry, nail polish and acrylic nails. Other personal protective equipment may be required for certain tasks.

What You'll Do

• Monitor, inspect, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain plant facility and utility systems, including HVAC, boilers and steam systems, compressed air, water systems, air handling equipment, cooling towers, pumps, and related equipment.
• Record operating and maintenance information from meters, gauges, controls, and other instrumentation; identify and report abnormal conditions, trends, and equipment deficiencies.
• Adjust controls, start and stop pumps and equipment, operate valves and switches, and perform other operational activities necessary to maintain systems within prescribed standards.
• Troubleshoot and maintain HVAC and building systems using BMS and Metasys control systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment, air handling equipment, make-up air units, rooftop units, exhaust systems, cooling towers, and associated mechanical systems.
• Support the safe operation and maintenance of boiler, steam, condensate, compressed air, and other plant utility systems and develop proficiency in these systems through training and qualification.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, including lubrication, oil changes, belt inspection and replacement, cleaning, adjustment, and component replacement.
• Perform mechanical and electrical repair work including disassembly, repair, and installation of valves, switches, motors, pumps, process instrumentation, and related components.
• Collect water samples for in-house and outside analysis, prepare samples for shipment as required, and maintain appropriate records.
• Complete assigned preventive maintenance and corrective work using the CMMS, including clear documentation of work performed, equipment condition, and follow-up needs.
• Assist with coordination and oversight of outside service providers for specialized maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
• Perform general facility, building, plumbing, grounds, and minor electrical maintenance as assigned.
• Follow lockout/tagout and all applicable safety procedures at all times.
• Participate in training and qualification activities to expand technical capability across both facility and utility systems.

What You'll Need

Associate degree, technical degree, certificate, or equivalent training in HVAC, electrical, industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, or a related technical field preferred; relevant work experience may be considered in place of formal technical education.

Entry-level candidates and recent graduates of applicable technical programs are encouraged to apply.

Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and demonstrated aptitude for hands-on troubleshooting.

Ability and willingness to develop proficiency in HVAC, boiler and steam systems, compressed air, water systems, pumps, controls, and other plant utility systems.

Ability to read equipment instruction and maintenance manuals, drawings, schematics, and blueprints.

Basic computer skills and ability to accurately document inspections, maintenance activities, and completed work in the CMMS.

Ability to operate, or become qualified to operate, scissor lifts and aerial work platforms.

Ability to work independently following appropriate training and qualification.

Physical stamina and agility sufficient to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, bend, work on rooftops, and work in confined spaces as required for the duration of the shift.

Good sensory perception to monitor plant machinery and operations visually, audibly, by smell, and by touch for temperature and vibration.
