Offshore OilerPolar Tankers, a wholly owned subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, provides marine transportation for North Slope production, using five company-owned, double-hulled tankers in addition to chartering third-party vessels as necessary. The tankers deliver oil from Valdez, Alaska, to refineries primarily on the West Coast of the United States. The company operates five Endeavour-class tankers: Polar Endeavour, Polar Resolution, Polar Discovery, Polar Adventure and Polar Enterprise.If you are selected as the Offshore Oiler, you will be working under the direction of the First Assistant Engineer and the Junior Engineer. The Oiler must have a good understanding of all Engine room machinery and auxiliary systems to assist in recognizing trends, assisting with plant operations and troubleshooting, and responding to casualties. The Oiler is required to participate in all drills and emergencies and to assist with the enforcement of rules, procedures, regulations, and pollution prevention. In addition, the Oiler performs routine maintenance and assists engineers with repairs of shipboard machinery and is also responsible for making good rounds of the equipment, recording pressure and temperature readings, and reporting any anomalies.Your responsibilities may include:Monitoring equipment and performing maintenanceCleaning main engine scavenge air boxCleaning lube and fuel oil purifiers and filtersTank soundings and topping off tanks as directedAfter being trained, assisting with crane and rigging operationsCleaning deck, engine room, and living spaces as requiredPerforming general maintenance on all equipmentChipping, scraping, and painting equipment and structuresLubricating / greasing machineryTypically works 12-hour days (includes 4 hours of overtime)Basic/Required:Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employerCurrently hold, or have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to obtain, a U.S. PassportTransportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)Currently hold the following endorsements on Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC):Able Seafarer – EngineRating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW)Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED)Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following:Be away from home for periods in excess of two monthsPush/pull up to 200 poundsLift/carry up to 100 pounds floor to shoulderLift from floor to overhead and transport articles weighing up to 50 poundsClimb various ladders and stairs ranging from 5 to 200 feet in heightPerform maintenance on equipmentStand for long periods of timePhysically attend to vessels including confined space entry and environmental extremesWalk, stand, stoop, sit, climb, and carry material on a daily basis on even and uneven terrainWork outside in harsh weather conditionsWork alone a high percentage of the timePreferred:1+ years of experience working on a crude oil tanker1+ years of experience working on a product tankerCurrently hold the following endorsements on Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC):Basic Training endorsementBasic Oil Tanker Cargo Operations endorsementVessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties endorsement (VPDSD)Security Awareness endorsementTankerman Assistant endorsement (not barges) or Tankerman P.I.C.Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work overtimeExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to clearly follow instructions, both written and verbalAbility to apply common sense to achieve the desired outcomes according to the company's operating procedures and safety protocolsOrganized, efficient and a methodical problem solverTakes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what's rightDelivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goalsBuilds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethicalAll unlicensed employees earn paid leave on the basis of twenty-six (26) days paid leave for every thirty (30) days of sea service. Tour lengths range from 65-85 days with an average tour of seventy-five (75) days onboard and sixty (60) days of paid leave.This position requires you to have a TWIC card (Transportation Workers Identification Card) to gain access to secure areas of Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) regulated facilities and vessels.
