Associate Director International Admissions and Student Affairs

Overview Working within the Office of Student Affairs and Community Engagement and the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, and reporting to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Community Engagement with a dotted line to the Assistant Dean of Enrollment Management and Financial Aid, the Associate Director of International Admissions and International Student Success works to support The Three Cairns Climate Program for the Global South, an initiative aimed at expanding the corps of outstanding environmental leaders throughout the Global South by overcoming the barriers to advanced environmental education and training that many students from these countries and regions often encounter. Students in the program will receive expanded tuition support; a program of community‑building events specifically focused on international students and their families once on campus; support for identifying and facilitating mentoring partnerships with YSE alumni from similar backgrounds; and funding to support summer internships in their home regions, helping to lay the groundwork for their return. This person will also work more broadly with the Yale School of the Environment student body and support/enrich the cultural student experience of a global student community. Admissions and Financial Aid Serve as a contact for prospective and admitted students, with primary responsibility for supporting prospective and admitted international students, especially those applying to the Three Cairns Program. Engaging with constituents daily to provide information and guidance regarding YSE programs, the admissions process and requirements, policies, procedures, and associated topics. Devise, develop, and implement recruitment strategies and diversity and inclusion‑related programming broadly. Lead and execute virtual, on‑campus, and off‑campus events to attract and recruit the strongest and most globally diverse student body. Analyze data on international markets, develop and implement strategic recruitment, communications streams, and marketing and yield plans for prospective international students while driving strategic actions to ensure that admissions goals are met. Collaborate with faculty, colleagues, students, and alumni to design programs and develop strategic relationships with international universities and organizations for the identification and cultivation of prospects leading to enrollment. Foster relationships with counselors at overseas schools, QS partners, and comparable global organizations to help maintain a pipeline of talented and diverse international students. Serve as a member of the Admissions Committee, responsible for evaluating application files to determine student eligibility for admission to the School; process and evaluating applications and transcripts. Responsible for planning and participating in international recruitment travel; must be willing and able to travel abroad as needed. Student Affairs and Community Engagement Collaborate with students, staff and campus partners to design, implement and assess programs and initiatives that facilitate a seamless cultural transition and enhance the overall international student experience. Foster a vibrant, inclusive environment by promoting intercultural and multicultural competencies, bridging the gap between domestic and international student populations to create a sense of belonging. Provide dedicated support to the Three Cairns Scholars, creating a robust cohort experience centered on peer‑to‑peer networking, personal and professional development, and social and educational programs and events. Collaborate with the career development and alumni services staff of the Three Cairns Program to organize events, support students, and provide data for stewardship reporting on the program. Convene and chair the inaugural YSE International Student Experience Working Group using data to strengthen and innovate international student services and institutional support systems. In partnership with the Office of Strategic Initiatives create and implement community programs and initiatives. Orientation: In partnership with the YSE Onboarding Committee, lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive international student orientation, including content creation and logistics management. Engage broadly with the community to develop trainings, dialog, and strategic frameworks to strengthen the infrastructure supporting international students and the wider YSE Community. Requests for vacation between December 15 and April 1 require special permission. This role involves managing all aspects of domestic and international travel logistics and includes regular travel commitments. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with an expectation of three to four days per week on campus. Required Skills and Abilities Superior interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to establish rapport with and build relationships with a diversity of groups. Creative mindset and innovative approach to continuously improve programmatic offerings to best reach desired audiences. Demonstrated interest in learning across differences and fostering an inclusive environment for all students. Ongoing collaboration and ability to partner effectively across multiple stakeholder groups. Ability to initiate programmatic and individual activities while functioning in a matrixed team setting. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple high‑priority events. Proficiency in basic data management systems (preferably Slate and Banner) and demonstrated expertise in Excel. Ability to lead, strong interpersonal and management skills, and the talent to meet all deadlines and hit all budgetary and other targets. Strong written, oral, numerical, and organizational skills. Ability to think creatively, problem‑solve, respond with flexibility and imagination to unanticipated situations, and work independently and as a part of a team and must enjoy working with diverse students and a wide array of constituent groups, representing the YSE at meetings, conferences, and outreach opportunities within Yale and beyond. Preferred Skills and Abilities Prior experience and interest in recruitment and program planning in higher education with a global orientation. Experience conducting data analysis, planning and executing events, and recruitment. Principal Responsibilities Directs, monitors, and assesses needs and directs the application of resources of an administrative University office dealing with one or more major functional areas. Directs and implements solutions to problems that are routine to complex in nature and that affect multiple functional areas of responsibility. Plans and/or participates in planning University activities on a long‑term basis to comply with University goals and objectives. Establishes and implements consistent university‑wide policies in multiple functional areas of responsibility. Ensures that University office policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. Develops and monitors goals and objectives for managerial and professional staff in compliance with University strategies. Directs a staff of exempt and non‑exempt employees. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in related field and five years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
