Instructor, Research Faculty Appointment, CNS Radiation Oncology

MISSION STATEMENT

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Previously participated in an appropriate academic, industrial or governmental research program.
• Has evidence of ability to carry out individual collaborative research and support, or to play role in departmental or institutional research initiatives.
• Perform basic and translational research in areas related to radiotherapy, immunotherapy, drug discovery, and cancer biology.
• Develop new strategies and tools to define the roles and cellular/molecular mechanisms of radiotherapy in treating cancers.
• Perform in vitro and in vivo assays to study cancer initiation, development and therapeutic resistance.
• Perform data analyses of publicly accessible databases to support research projects in the laboratory.
• Ensure safety standards are maintained in the laboratory. Collaborate with other investigators at MDACC and outside institutions on research projects.
• Must be present physically to work a minimum of 40 hours per week in the institution.
• Must read and comprehend research literature and attend ongoing seminars to be well informed on the latest scientific developments in the field of interest.
• Demonstrates potential for institutional service.
• Shows promise for effective participation in teams as appropriate for appointment role(s).
• Complies with all policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
Doctorate-level degree in a field appropriate to faculty role and/or department mission.

Experience:

Required: At least 2 years as postdoctoral experience required or equivalent time as a basic scientist
Preferred: Three years of postdoctoral experience in cancer biology, radiation biology or related fields. Strong experience using mouse models in biomedical research. Knowledge of radiation oncology, clinical database management and data analysis, patient sample database management, basic cellular and molecular biology techniques and operation of scientific instruments and techniques used in related fields of research; such as optical microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, spectrophotometry, image analysis, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, subcutaneous and orthotropic animal model experimentation. Medical background with data science and lab skills in DNA, RNA and protein analysis, ELISA and multiplex assays and radiation will be preferred.
