The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of the position.Monitoring and adjusting plant operationsTroubleshooting and maintaining plant equipmentRecording and maintaining plant operation recordsOversees proper functioning of water pumps, motors, chlorinators, filters, and chemical feedersAdjusts as necessary to maintain proper flow of waterKeeps records and monitors reservoir levels, head loss levels, pump station status, etc.Checks incoming rate and pumping levels to schedule flow changesAdds or adjusts addition of chemicals to water as necessaryNotes readings of meters and indicatorsChanges charts on recording meters and gaugesCollects water samples from designed points, performs basic chemicals testsMakes chemical reed and treatment adjustmentsReplenishes treatment equipment with chemicalsMaintains records of chemical usagePerforms routine equipment and plant monitoring maintenancePerforms basic building and grounds maintenance functionsBackwashes filtersOff-loads chemical suppliesPerforms related tasks as requiredTypical QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESGeneral knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment and methods used in water treatment and pumping operationsGeneral knowledge of computer applications and programsGeneral knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with water plant and related activities and of necessary safety precautionsSome knowledge of chemistry as applied to water treatmentAbility to adjust water pumps, chemical feed machines and other water plant equipmentAbility to check the operation of equipment and to detect defects in operationAbility to take accurate readings, to keep routine records and to make arithmetical computationsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associatesEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or GED and minimal experience in water treatment plant maintenance work preferredOther Necessary RequirementsJOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTSThis is medium work requiring the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 70 pounds of force to move objectsWork requires climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and graspingVocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken wordHearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levelsVisual acuity is required for depth perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activitiesThe worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards, and oilsSPECIAL REQUIREMENTSPossession of or ability to obtain North Carolina Grade C Surface Water Treatment and Class C Water Treatment Plant Operator certifications within one year of employmentA NC Class C drivers' license is required for the entire duration of employment.Please be sure to complete the application in full.
