Health and Safety Manager

Overview DSV – Global transport and logistics is seeking a Health & Safety Manager. The role leads operations in injury prevention, safety communications, hazard materials handling, and regulatory compliance. The position develops, implements, and manages safety programs, policies and procedures to create a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. The role ensures that Health, Safety & Environmental Policies are applied within the DSV Solutions environment and that sites comply with statutory requirements (including OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 where applicable). Responsibilities Serve as a subject matter expert and consultant on highly technical HSE topics with site management, corporate HSE, regulators, and regional leadership to drive sustainable loss-improvement and program effectiveness. Promote safe practices and environmental commitments aligned with company policies and compliance requirements. Maintain working knowledge of basic HSE regulations and practices (e.g., PIT, Hazard Communication, EAP, LOTO, Machine Guarding, Fire Prevention, Electrical Safety). Conduct pre-operational risk assessments on new sites and designs; propose and implement risk mitigation measures within the region. Provide training and coaching to local Health & Safety Managers to develop technical competence and leadership within the region. Partner with Facility Leadership and serve as the point of contact for safety-related matters. Conduct HSE audits and assessments to measure regulatory compliance and conformance to company policies. Plan, administer, and manage safety policies, programs, procedures, and systems for the assigned region; ensure HSE inductions are completed for all employees. Represent DSV with OSHA, EPA, FDA, or other regulatory agencies and address site-level issues as applicable. Foster teamwork and pride in the company safety program; publish monthly safety topics and training for site use. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local Health, Safety & Environmental regulations and customer requirements. Monitor HSE controllers and Site Managers in executing safe work practices and maintaining standards. Assist in investigating root causes of HSE complaints and ensure corrective actions are implemented; participate in investigation of accidents and near misses and recommend corrective actions with site safety designees. Coordinate with site safety managers to align Health, Safety & Environment plans with Quality Management Systems. Ensure implementation of emergency procedures (EAP, ERP, BCP & EDP) and deliver HSE training regionally as required. Support information provision on HSE for RFP submissions. Maintain up-to-date risk registers and documentation such as routine/non-routine risks and job hazard analyses. Assist in the year-end OSHA 300 log publication and OSHA surveys; manage Workers’ Compensation claims including Return to Work processes. Prepare and maintain procedures for storage and handling of Hazardous Materials; ensure knowledge of EPA, DOT regulations (including HAZWOPER and Hazard Communication). Oversee transportation of hazardous materials in compliance with EPA and DOT/IMDG/IATA regulations; develop and implement training for shipping, handling, and storage of Hazardous Materials. Be available for after-hours calls and/or responses. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience in a medium to large warehouse in an HSE management capacity supervising 5 or more associates. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field preferred. Prior experience in safety observations/inspections and in developing and implementing compliance strategies. Knowledge of environmental/sustainability topics and regulatory trends (environmental regulations, green technologies, waste/recycling, energy/water conservation). Strong computer skills; proficient in MS Office. Certificates & Licenses: ASP or similar certification preferred. English language proficiency (reading, writing, and speaking). Ability to manage indirect reports; good communication, supervisory and people skills; strong project management and analytical abilities. Ability to develop and deliver presentations to managers and executives; effective at influencing and communicating at multiple levels. Self-management, change management, and intercultural communication skills; willingness to travel up to 35% within the United States. Work Environment and Additional Information Core competencies include leadership, problem solving, and independent contribution capabilities. Physical requirements include exposure to various environmental conditions, ability to sit at a computer, and lifting up to 70 lbs; PPE usage as required.
