Registered Dietitian

Nucleus Healthcare is seeking a Registered Dietitian for a 13-week contract assignment at a health system in Newport News, VA. Title: Registered Dietitian Shift & Hours Shift Time Type: Day Shift Hours Per Week: 40 (5x8s) Responsibilities Perform nutrition assessments and re‑assessments, identify nutrition goals and interventions, monitor and evaluate patient progress, and provide clear and concise medical record documentation. Develop and monitor enteral and/or parenteral nutrition support regimens in conjunction with pharmacy and medical staff. Collaborate with Speech Therapy regarding diet progression and transitional feeding to meet nutritional needs. Clarify admission orders to ensure nutrition support, diet and oral supplement orders are consistent with the facility’s established nutrition support formulary and diet manual. Consider religious, cultural and ethnic factors in development of nutrition care plans. Evaluate potential food‑drug or herb/supplement interactions; provide nutrition education/counseling as appropriate. Develop and implement educational programs for patients and staff; work with the patient and family to identify educational needs, achievable goals and provide patient education; serve as a resource to the medical staff regarding evidence‑based nutrition practice. Attend Interdisciplinary team meetings and communicate patients’ nutrition care plan, progress and recommendations; participate in interdisciplinary team rounds such as wound care and ventilator weaning. Participate in departmental and facility Performance Improvement Program, including data collection and analysis. Serve as a resource to food service staff to assure the patient care plan is implemented; advise food production staff regarding special preparation techniques for modified diets. Participate in developing, planning and standardizing menus; review and approve general and therapeutic menus, menu substitutions; perform meal rounds and tray audits to ensure patient meal trays are consistent with the prescribed diet and meet standards of quality, quantity, temperature and appearance. Review yearly updates and approve the therapeutic diet manual annually; educate clinical and food service staff on the Nutrition Care Manual; maintain a hard copy of a simplified diet manual for downtime. Keep current with nutritional practices and theories; maintain professional registration requirements (Professional Portfolio, self‑development and continuing education); demonstrate interest in continuing education, academics or specialized certification to further enhance professional skills. Communicate patients’ needs to appropriate team members (pain and suctioning); act as a liaison among the patient, multidisciplinary team, medical staff and food service. Perform other duties as assigned. Follow all facility guidelines on appearance, attendance and punctuality. Qualifications Must be a Certified Nurse Aide. Must have home health or hospice patient experience. Must reside within 25 miles of the location. Average of six patients per day with approximately one hour visit per patient.
