Position Summary The Clinical Pharmacist reports to the Director of Pharmacy and is responsible for providing safe, effective, evidence-based medication therapy management in collaboration with physicians, nurses, pharmacy team members, and other interdisciplinary care partners. This position reviews, verifies, and monitors medication orders; evaluates drug therapy for appropriateness, safety, efficacy, interactions, allergies, contraindications, dosing, duplicate therapy, and patient-specific clinical factors; and supports timely, accurate dispensing of medications in accordance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and applicable state and federal requirements. The Clinical Pharmacist serves as a medication therapy expert and resource to clinical teams, patients, and caregivers by providing drug information, patient education, medication reconciliation support, and recommendations that promote optimal patient outcomes. This position also supports day‑to‑day pharmacy operations, medication safety initiatives, quality improvement activities, inventory stewardship, documentation requirements, and the supervision and guidance of pharmacy support personnel and students. Essential Position Responsibilities Review, verify, and process medication orders to ensure accuracy, completeness, appropriateness, safety, and compliance with organizational policies, provider orders, clinical guidelines, and applicable state and federal regulations. Evaluate patient‑specific medication therapy, including indication, dosing, route, frequency, allergies, renal and hepatic function, laboratory values, drug interactions, contraindications, therapeutic duplication, and opportunities for optimization. Monitor patient drug regimen and collaborate with physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and other interdisciplinary team members to promote safe, effective, evidence‑based medication use and improved patient outcomes. Provide timely drug information, clinical consultation, and medication‑related recommendations to providers, nursing staff, pharmacy personnel, patients, and caregivers as appropriate. Perform medication histories, medication reconciliation activities, and patient education related to medication purpose, proper administration, adherence, expected outcomes, potential adverse effects, and safety considerations. Prepare, dispense, and oversee the distribution of medications, including controlled substances, sterile and non‑sterile preparations, and other pharmaceuticals, in accordance with departmental procedures and professional standards of practice. Support medication safety practices by identifying, documenting, communicating, and helping resolve medication‑related concerns, near misses, adverse drug events, formulary issues, and process improvement opportunities. Supervise, direct, and provide guidance to pharmacy technicians, support personnel, interns, residents, and students, including workflow oversight, task prioritization, training support, and reinforcement of departmental expectations. Assist with day‑to‑day pharmacy operations, including workload coordination, medication distribution workflows, inventory stewardship, automated dispensing cabinet support, controlled substance accountability, and timely response to clinical and operational needs. Maintain accurate documentation, records, reports, and required logs in accordance with hospital policy, accreditation standards, pharmacy department procedures, and state and federal law. Participate in multidisciplinary committee meetings, pharmacy and therapeutics activities, medication‑use evaluations, quality improvement initiatives, regulatory readiness efforts, and policy or protocol review as assigned. Serve as a professional role model and pharmacy department resource, demonstrating sound clinical judgment, effective communication, service excellence, confidentiality, and commitment to patient‑centered care. Serve as back up to pharmacy leadership as assigned. Qualifications Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy Licensure and Certifications: Licensed as a pharmacist in the state of Arkansas Experience: Previous experience in an acute care pharmacy setting, preferred. Work Environment This position will spend 80% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment and 20% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs.
