Job Overview Physical Therapist Assistant – Provide physical therapy services under the supervision of a Physical Therapist in accordance with state regulations. Reports to: Physical Therapist. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. Responsibilities Assist the Physical Therapist by obtaining objective data as regulated by LPTA. Identify indications for and assist in evaluations at appropriate intervals under the direction of the Physical Therapist. Conduct both individual and group treatment as assigned by the Physical Therapist and outlined in the treatment plan, including muscle strength, coordination, mobility, sensory awareness, sitting/standing, transfer training, balance activities, gait training, range‑of‑motion activities and modalities. Assist in selecting and sequencing physical therapy techniques/media, adapt techniques/media as indicated by patient performance, and consult with the Physical Therapist before major modifications to the treatment plan. Monitor patients’ response to intervention and consult with the Physical Therapist regarding medication when indicated. Adhere to department and patient schedule and modify as appropriate for the treatment regimen. Maintain acceptable patient‑care ratios as determined by the Physical Therapist. Provide, recommend or fabricate adaptive devices or other equipment; train patients, families and staff in their use. Participate in patient, family and staff education. Coordinate the total rehabilitation program of the patient in collaboration with other team members. Follow Physical Therapy Department procedures regarding documentation of services. Deliver treatment in accordance with established standards of practice, department procedures and productivity standards. Record billable treatment times according to Physical Therapy Department protocols. Maintain positive relationships with co‑workers, patients, families and facility personnel. Attend work on time and coordinate schedule to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift. Assist with and participate in Performance Improvement Programs as required. Engage in ongoing continuing education and professional development. Comply with all Infection Control, Universal Precautions and OSHA standards. Adhere to established confidentiality standards. Project a positive and professional image at all times. Follow United Medical Hospitals' Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct and attend annual review programs/in‑services. Perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization. Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant from an accredited program or eligibility under a grandfathered clause. Current Louisiana Physical Therapy Assistant licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Physical Demands Regularly required to sit with intermittent standing, walking, and crouching; use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with arms, talk, and hear.
