NICU Night Nurse: Impactful Neonatal Care

Registered Nurse (RN) – NICU Nights Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie Department: NICU / Nursery Special Care Shift/Schedule: Full Time Nights – (3) 12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM About Our NICU Level II NICU with planned expansion to Level III 6-bed NICU within a comprehensive Women’s Services program (expansion underway) Department includes: 6 Labor & Delivery rooms 2 Operating Rooms 2-bay PACU 11-bed Postpartum unit Total Women’s Services team: ~70 members Position Overview The NICU Registered Nurse delivers specialized nursing care to neonates requiring close monitoring and advanced support. This role collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality, compassionate care to infants and their families. Qualifications Prior NICU experience (or relevant neonatal experience) Graduate of an accredited nursing program Active RN license BLS (Basic Life Support) required NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred (or required within timeframe) Strong understanding of nursing and patient care standards, including laws, rules, guidelines and hospital procedures Proficiency in medical terminology and common medications Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, electronic medical documentation, scheduling systems, email) Problem‑solving and critical‑thinking abilities Commitment to teamwork, continuous learning, and peer development About Us At Baylor Scott & White Health, we promote well‑being for everyone and encourage healthy living. Responsibilities include patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses. What You'll Do Conduct detailed clinical assessments, prioritize patient and family needs, create, implement, and evaluate care plans, and adjust plans to reach desired outcomes. Build relationships and manage discomfort while maintaining professionalism in therapeutic connections with patients and families. Create care plans reflecting values to resolve issues. Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members to empower them with knowledge for better healthcare choices; assess and document learning needs regularly. Collaborate with colleagues and community to create care plans, delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly. Use multiple problem‑solving strategies with patients, families, and staff; recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery. Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, commit to growth, and contribute to peers' development and community service.
