The position is within the subject of Systems Biology, which at the University of Skövde is defined as the development and application of computational, mathematical and statistical methods and models together with the generation of large-scale data for the study of biological systems. Systems Biology is also the name of the School of Bioscience’s interdisciplinary research environment, bringing together research on biological systems and fostering collaboration between research groups with complementary expertise. Your Role The position as Associate Senior Lecturer is a career development position intended to lead to promotion to a permanent position as Senior Lecturer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to establish an independent research profile and further develop both research and teaching qualifications to meet the eligibility requirements for promotion to Senior Lecturer. The appointment is full-time and fixed-term for four years. An individual career development plan will be established to support the Associate Senior Lecturer's professional development. During the appointment, the Associate Senior Lecturer may apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer once the eligibility requirements have been fulfilled. Subject to successful promotion, the position will become permanent. The aim of the position is for you to establish an independent research profile within AI-driven precision medicine with a strong foundation in systems biology. You are expected to contribute to the long-term development of the School’s research in this area by developing national and international collaborations and preparing competitive applications for external research funding. The position also includes teaching and supervision within the School’s educational programmes, particularly in bioinformatics and systems biology at the Master's level. The main responsibilities include: Conducting and developing research in AI-driven precision medicine. Initiating and developing national and international research collaborations, and actively seeking external research funding. Collaborating with the wider society, as well as with academic, clinical, and industrial partners. Teaching, supervision, and examination at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. Administration. Additional duties may be assigned as part of the role. Qualifications We are looking for candidates who have: A PhD in Systems Biology, Biomedicine, Bioscience or a closely related field, or equivalent scientific competence. Priority will be given to candidates who obtained their PhD, or achieved equivalent competence, no more than five years before the application deadline (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, Section 4a). Documented scientific expertise in systems biology with a focus on biological or biomedical research questions. Documented experience in the development and application of AI/machine learning methods and statistical modelling for the analysis of biological and medical data. Demonstrated ability to communicate and present scientific research findings in English, both orally and through scientific publications. Documented collaborative skills and the ability to contribute to and develop research collaborations. The following assessment criteria will also be taken into account in the appointment process: Of highest importance are: The level of proficiency required for eligibility. Demonstrated ability to independently conduct research and publish scientific results. Ability and potential to develop competitive applications for external research funding. Documented experience in establishing and developing national and international research collaborations and networks. Of second highest importance are: Documented programming proficiency in Python and R for advanced analysis and integration of large-scale biological and medical data. Knowledge of network and multi-omics data analysis, including bulk and single-cell RNA-seq analysis, as well as experience with applications in precision medicine and advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs). Documented experience with established AI/machine learning frameworks, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or equivalent, as well as practical experience in developing and applying advanced AI models on high-performance computing infrastructure, including GPU-based systems. Also of importance are: Demonstrated teaching proficiency Type of employment: The position is fixed-term for four years. During the period of employment, an Associate Senior Lecturer may apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer once the eligibility requirements have been met. Subject to a successful promotion, the position will become permanent.
