Ocean Shores Fire Department - Lateral Firefighter Paramedic Last updated on May 22, 2026. PST Partner Agency since August 11, 2015. Testing Deadline July 01, 2026. All Candidates All Candidates: are required to complete the Personal History section with PST. Lateral Paramedic Candidates are not required to take a written PST exam or PST CPAT. Qualified candidates will be invited to attend an Oral Board Interview. After successful completion of the initial testing process, eligible candidates will be invited to a Chief’s interview. A background investigation, psychological testing, and medical exam will take place after conditional offer of employment. Veteran’s Credit may be available. If requesting Veteran’s Credit, please submit a DD214 Form prior to confirmation of attending an Oral Board/Practical Assessment. Entry Level Paramedic Candidates will be required to take a written PST exam and CPAT test within last 12 months. Qualified candidates will be invited to attend a Practical skills evaluation assessment along with an Oral Board interview. After successful completion of the initial testing process, eligible candidates will be invited to a Chief's interview. A background investigation, psychological testing, and medical exam will take place after conditional offer of employment. Veteran’s Credit may be available. If requesting Veteran’s Credit, please submit a DD214 Form prior to confirmation of attending an Oral Board/Practical Assessment. Requirements Written Examination: Not required for lateral candidates. Entry Level candidates required to take a written PST test and pass with 70% or higher. Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT): Not required, may be required later. PST Personal History Statement: Required within 7 days of passing required exam(s). Minimum Age: 18. Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen, Legal Resident, or Legally Eligible for Employment in the United States. High School Grad/ GED: Yes. Driver's License: Valid Driver’s License with a history acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier. Felony Conviction(s) as an Adult: No adult felony convictions at any time. Ability to Read, Speak & Write English Language: Yes. Vision Requirements: Must pass vision exam as part of medical examination. Prior Experience Requirement: Minimum of one (1) year verifiable experience as a current full-time Paid Firefighter/Paramedic and successful completion of the probationary period at current employment. EMT Certification: Must have current Washington State EMT‑P Certification. Firefighter 1 Certification: If no Firefighter 1 Certification, will be required to participate in an approved IFSAC Fire Academy. Paramedic Certification: Yes. Prior FF Experience Required: Yes. Disqualifiers The following are automatic and potential disqualifiers. Applicants should not apply to our agency if they indicate any of the automatic disqualifiers. Potential disqualifiers will be considered on a case by case basis. Driving: Potential – Will review driving record. Drug Usage: Automatic – No convictions, will consider others on an individual basis. Criminal Activity: Automatic – No Adult Felony Conviction within the past 10 years; Potential – Adult misdemeanor convictions will be carefully reviewed; Automatic – Unlawful sexual misconduct; Automatic – No Outstanding warrants or charges pending in a criminal court; Potential – Will review others. Employment: Potential – Will review terminations, or leaving employer in lieu of termination; Potential – Will review being dishonorably discharged from the United States armed forces; Automatic – Lied during any stage of the hiring process; Automatic – Falsified his or her application, personal history questionnaire, or any other forms during hiring process; Potential – Will review others.
