Engineering Manager - Data Center Systems Engineering

Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division is currently seeking an Engineering Manager to join our team in Raleigh, NC. Location: Hybrid office (3 days in‑office, 2 days remote). Employees must live within 50 miles of the Raleigh facility. In‑office presence is required on a business‑needs basis. Relocation assistance is available within the United States. The expected annual salary range for this role is $130,000 – $190,000. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program. Salary is based upon experience, qualifications, and market considerations. Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division (CPS) designs, manufactures, and services Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, batteries, and electronic‑based products to ensure power reliability in demanding applications. Our teams deliver mission‑critical solutions to customers’ most challenging energy‑management requirements. What You’ll Do Lead a multi‑disciplinary engineering team in modifying high‑power three‑phase UPS products to meet customer requirements, incorporate new manufacturing technologies, comply with international safety standards, and follow a fast‑track release process and Eaton’s stage‑gate procedures. Manage technical resources on multiple Engineer‑to‑Order (ETO) projects, maintain engineering accountability, and drive functional excellence to ensure design requirements are met. Provide timely feedback and coaching to direct reports; conduct performance reviews to evaluate progress toward objectives, competencies, and development plans. Participate in requirement reviews with customers, sales, and support personnel. Ensure product designs are competitive in quality, performance, cost, and reliability. Translate voice‑of‑customer input into actionable requirements and roadmap direction for UPS and connected/automation platforms (SCADA/HMI/PLC), balancing reliability, serviceability, cybersecurity, and lifecycle cost. Partner with Sales and Product Management to support consultative solutioning—defining architecture options, technical trade‑offs, and submittal strategy—to enable customer approvals and project awards. Serve as an escalation point bridging engineering and field/service teams for controls/SCADA/HMI topics; define troubleshooting plans, required site data, and resolution paths with support organizations. Convey technical concepts and information to internal staff, peers, and stakeholders using strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Collaborate with Product Management, Manufacturing, Service, and Quality to ensure successful product delivery. Champion continuous process improvements and promote electrical and mechanical engineering excellence throughout the team. Foster an environment that promotes Eaton’s goals, philosophies, and encourages continuous improvement. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum two (2) years’ engineering management/team‑lead/project‑management experience. Minimum five (5) years’ experience in design engineering, manufacturing, industrial, or quality roles. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. At least two years of direct people‑management experience. Electrical design experience in high‑power, three‑phase UPS systems or similar products (e.g., variable‑frequency drives, traction drives, solar inverters). Experience leading customer‑facing technical design summits/workshops and converting outcomes into engineering requirements, action plans, and internal alignment. Knowledge of mission‑critical power systems, including UPS architectures, switchgear integration, power distribution design, and data‑center automation/monitoring systems. Experience with data‑center power architectures and redundancy strategies, and communication of expectations and trade‑offs across Ops/Design/Service stakeholders. Hands‑on experience with automation/monitoring platforms used in mission‑critical power systems (SCADA/HMI/PLC integration), including networking and service constraints. Proficiency in project‑management methodologies and tools, with a track record of managing complex engineering projects. Knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to electrical and mechanical engineering.
