About the Department San José Clean Energy (SJCE) is the City of San José’s local, not‑for‑profit electricity supplier. SJCE serves more than 350,000 customer accounts and has contracted for more than 1 GW of power. The department works to meet the City’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. Position Duties Support the preparation, issuance, and evaluation of solicitations related to Energy, Resource Adequacy and Renewable Energy Credits. Assist with evaluation of pre‑ and post‑release solicitation materials for long‑term energy projects such as stand‑alone and collocated storage, wind, and solar resources. Assist in the management, analysis, and enforcement of power contracts, including long‑term energy contracts through development, construction, and operation. Assist in the management and resolution of matters related to resource performance within the California Independent System Operator’s energy and capacity markets. Support SJCE Scheduling Agent, focusing on stand‑alone and collocated storage and renewables. Conduct primary research related to SJCE obligations within the CAISO, CPUC and other regulatory frameworks, focusing on stand‑alone and collocated storage and renewables. Participate in completing analysis and preparing procurement plans, managing consultants, and developing procurement strategies. Support and undertake projects related to power, procurement, and validation; assist in the approval of energy purchases or sales of surplus energy. Participate in joint procurement with other Community Choice Aggregators and CA Community Power. Develop and maintain relationships with power suppliers and consultants. Assure compliance with federal, state and local requirements. Salary Information Power Resources Specialist I: $108,151.68 – $131,826.24 Power Resources Specialist II: $117,717.60 – $143,423.28 Minimum Qualifications Power Resources Specialist I Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Law, Natural Resources, Statistics or a related analytical degree. No experience required. Power Resources Specialist II Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Law, Natural Resources, Statistics or a related analytical degree. One year of experience in energy resources operations, planning, purchasing, scheduling or contract negotiations. Other Requirements Possession of a valid California driver’s license may be required. Hybrid position – part of the work week must be onsite at the downtown San José office.
