MTI is looking for a motivated Design Release Engineer to join our team. We are specifically looking for an individual experienced/knowledgeable providing technical leadership for specific components and/or systems from concept through production. Plans and coordinates project team resources and tasks, consisting of design, analysis, development, supplier, manufacturing, and customer engineers driving system level designs and engineering work on customer projects from concept to production. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 5+ years postgraduate experience in a relevant position, with electrification experience preferred. The Design Release Engineer opportunity requires a candidate with strong communication skills as this position will directly interface with the customer, suppliers and internal teams.Location of this position will be at the home office in Plymouth, MI with travel to Troy, MI required as needed. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.Skill Team Roles:The Sr. Project Engineer - Design & Release works on all phases or aspects of projects aligned with the skill team roles outlined above and is specifically focused on the delivery of production programs. This role is expected to informally lead a cross functional team of designers, analysts, development engineers, and external interfaces (i.e., customers, suppliers, and manufacturing), with the following specific responsibilities:Ownership of engine and system-level specificationsUse and maintenance of Product Data Management (PDM) systems to store and manage product dataOwnership of the project Bill of Materials (BOM)Active participation in design reviewsAdherence to published design, checking, and release processesSupport for procurement activitiesApproval authority on incoming materialLeadership of engine buildsOverall responsibility for the quality and delivery of project hardware, from concept through productionOwns the overall delivery of validated product hardware into high-volume productionPlans, schedules, and coordinates support staff, with minimal supervision, to efficiently deliver products from concept through production.Drives the agreement and documentation of product specifications/requirementsOwns the creation of product 3D CAD Data and 2D DrawingInitiates the design review and sign-off process for areas of responsibilityOwns the assessment of product risks and drives mitigation actions (i.e., owns the DFMEAFollows the design release and engineering change management processes applicable to the project/customerManages the Bill of Materials (BOM) related to area of responsibilityProvides support for Procurement of hardware in all phases: mule, DV, PV, and productionDrives the design verification activities required in all program phases (i.e., DVP&R)Identifies and negotiates with suppliers for the manufacture of prototype hardwareInterfaces and negotiates with production suppliers and participates in the assessment and mitigation of productions risks (i.e., participates in the production supplier's PFMEA)Interfaces and negotiates with production manufacturing personnelResponsibility for reports and presentations (internal and to customer)Resolves engineering and design conflicts. Being able to judge when to escalate to project management, chief engineer, etc.Maintains interfaces with other systems of the overall project.Coordinates work effectively to meet tight deadlinesSupports the development of customer relationships in order to secure additional and future businessDevelops positive working relationships with other functional teams and departments, locally and globallyCommunicates and interacts regularly with team members, solicits feedback, and is sensitive and supportive to staff needsAssumes accountability for individual and team deliveryQualifications/Skills:Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field requiredMaster’s degree preferredMinimum of 5 – 7+ years’ experience in powertrain design engineeringExcellent communication skillsAnalytical thinkingMotivatedTeam playerCustomer orientedWorking knowledge of all elements of a powertrain systemFoundational knowledge of internal combustion engine fundamentalsExcellent knowledge of more than one area of engine systemsGood understanding of other engineering disciplines, especially structural & dynamic analysis, mechanical development & durability, and quality management toolsUnderstands and has used 3D CAD toolsOutstanding communication and presentation skillsAVL provides a competitive compensation and benefits package to all direct hires.
