Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with a wide range of medical conditions, post-surgical needs, and chronic illnesses. This role utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, excellent patient assessment skills, and the ability to manage multiple patients in a fast-paced acute care environment. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Assessment Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing monitoring of patient conditions. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans. Provide direct patient care for medical, surgical, and post-operative patients. Monitor patient progress and identify changes in condition promptly. Respond appropriately to clinical emergencies and patient care needs. Medication Administration & Treatment Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and treatments as prescribed. Monitor patient responses to medications and interventions. Perform nursing procedures within the scope of practice. Ensure safe medication administration and adherence to hospital protocols. Collaborate with physicians, therapists, pharmacists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and patient care planning. Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharge processes. Communicate patient status, treatment plans, and progress effectively to the healthcare team. Patient & Family Education Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, procedures, and discharge instructions. Promote patient understanding of disease management and recovery plans. Provide emotional support and guidance throughout the hospitalization process. Encourage patient participation in their plan of care. Documentation & Compliance Accurately document assessments, treatments, interventions, and patient outcomes in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and nursing standards. Adhere to infection prevention and patient safety protocols. Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. Professional Practice Demonstrate professional nursing practice in accordance with state nursing regulations and organizational standards. Maintain current clinical knowledge and nursing competencies. Support teamwork and mentorship of other healthcare staff as appropriate. Participate in ongoing education and professional development activities. Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Nursing program. Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state. Previous nursing experience in an acute care, medical-surgical, or hospital setting preferred. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize care effectively.\ Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights as required. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Previous Medical-Surgical, Acute Care, Telemetry, Step-Down, or Progressive Care experience. Experience caring for diverse patient populations with complex medical conditions. Knowledge of evidence-based nursing practices and patient care standards. Experience in a fast-paced hospital environment. Certifications (If Any) Current Registered Nurse (RN) License – Required Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – Required Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification – Preferred or Required per facility policy Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification (CMSRN) – Preferred Additional specialty nursing certifications are a plus.
