Project Superintendent

The Project Superintendent is responsible for leading all field construction activities for the Phase 1 Loadout project in Hastings, NE. This project involves the installation and integration of ethanol loadout infrastructure, including truck and rail metering systems, piping, fire protection systems, and supporting structural and electrical components. The Superintendent will oversee day-to-day field operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of work across multiple scopes, including mechanical, civil, electrical, and subcontracted specialty services (such as fire suppression and metering system installation). Key project activities include coordination of equipment installation (metering skids, load racks, and control systems), tie‑ins to existing systems during scheduled plant outage windows, and execution of final connections for fuel product transfer, power, controls, and fire water systems. The Superintendent will play a critical role in: Driving project schedule adherence through coordination with project management, engineering, and subcontractors Managing field labor, subcontractors, and site logistics during active construction and outage periods Ensuring all work is completed in compliance with safety, quality, and client requirements Supporting planning and execution of key milestones, including mobilization, outage work, system tie‑ins, and project closeout This role requires strong leadership in an active industrial facility environment, with an emphasis on coordinating complex system installations and maintaining productivity while working within tight timelines and operational constraints. Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned) General 7 years of experience in a specific craft History of working successfully as a Sr. Craft Superintendent Proven ability to work collaboratively and execute independently, maintain excellent rapport with team members Communication, planning, organization and delegation skills Read and understand contract documents, project drawings, specifications, technical data, assembly methods, and O&M manuals Understand local ordinances, contractor licensing and city and county permitting requirements Lead project constructability reviews and task plans to improve the execution of the project, lead reviews of their scope Knowledge of overall project financial principles to quantify costs and benefits to allow for correct decision making Demonstrate business skills including communication skills, relationship development, and business acumen Self‑motivated; capable of taking initiative, successfully handle and prioritize multiple competing assignments and effectively manage deadlines Interpersonal and communication skills to coordinate team efforts, provide direction to team members, and communicate project objectives, parameters, status, and outcomes to stakeholders Written and verbal communication with ability to serve as a spokesperson for Company Willing to travel extensively and relocate to the next project location for an extended period (typically 6‑12 months) Ability to adapt and become an influential leader of Strobel’s culture and values Client interaction Represent Strobel in a professional manner in all client interaction activities Hold daily, weekly and monthly meetings with the client Safety Ability to act as the safety manager on site and oversee incident management Understand and lead Strobel’s Corporate Safety Plan and develop/assist in site specific safety plan Accountable to identify safety hazards employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards Ability to make project decisions related to the safety of all employees including sitewide stop work Support or lead safety training meetings and sessions Submit purchase requests for craft specific safety consumables (goggles, gloves, etc.) Support and lead additional safety practices: Supervisor audits, Craft observations, Safety Leadership Meetings Lead and train to the Strobel planning/JSA process for your crews Lead the morning stretch /flex and morning gang box meetings Ensure your crews report ALL safety events such as near misses, incidents, good catches, etc. Quality Understand and lead Strobel’s Corporate Quality Plan and develop/assist in site specific quality plan Read, understand, and distribute contract drawings and specifications to all field leadership Read, understand, and ensure that the site quality plan is communicated, and all inspections and quality documentation is being completed on time and assembled for final turn‑over Identify and fulfill all client and 3rd party inspections Inspect crews work for compliance with company, contract, and code requirements Identify deficiencies, explain and take any corrective action needed Identify inconsistencies between industry best practices and specifications/drawings and provide value engineering through the request for information (RFI) process Ensure that your crew is qualified to perform their work and have the appropriate certifications/license to execute their work Productivity Understand the project assigned work and budgets and meet or beat the budgeted man‑hours Ensure direct reports are executing effective Gang box meetings which assign/align the performance goals for their crews and ensure they are “tools on” and working within 20 minutes of the start time Review direct reports’ daily goal cards the day prior to ensure they are complete and accurate Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed in any of these areas Follow the Strobel planning process; update master schedule, complete/review 3‑week look ahead schedules and review 1 week look ahead, daily goal cards, JSAs and task planning Perform and lead major task planning sessions to safely and efficiently carry out all aspects of work assigned Listen to employee’s and supervisor’s suggestions, complaints, problems, safety concerns and recommendations, evaluate each, then devise and implement a plan based on information gathered Plan and communicate to ensure that an adequate supply of tools, materials and equipment is available for upcoming work identified on the 3‑week schedule Leadership Ability to function as the Project Leader Establish project goals and roles and responsibilities for team members Conduct and lead meetings, both internally and externally in a professional manner Communicate and coordinate with all trades, subcontractors and project stakeholders Provide training and coaching to indirect staff, and field leadership Ensure on the job training to craft personnel are in place Understand and know applicable employee laws and follow Strobel HR policies Complete roles and responsibilities for direct reports Supervise and manage the employee discipline and improvement process within the team Ability to listen to employee concerns and oversee conflict resolution. Elevate to corporate HR as needed Team Management Manage a team of direct reports to include indirect staff, craft superintendents, general foreman, foreman, or craft lead Utilize MUPA (Mutually Understood Performance Agreement) with craft members for accountability purposes and to manage site expectation Hold team/project planning meetings Project Controls Productivity Tracking Utilize Strobel’s Productivity Tracking tools Perform quantity collection and develop low productivity mitigation plans Review productivity of crews to direct reports Average Labor Rate Understand the components of the rate composition (Base, Sub, Overtime, Crew mix) Establish crew mix to meet budget ALR and hire accordingly Manage Labor Efficiency Index Equipment schedule and log Identify equipment needs and durations to the project team Procurement Ensure all material is ordered for applicable scope of work Identify procurement needs on the 3‑week schedule Ensure ordered material is received, and over, short or damaged items (OSD) are reported Review project documents and generate material requests Risk and Opportunity Log Identify and develop scope risk list Manage actions taken to reduce current risks and seize opportunities Project Review Maintain the project review documents for your specific craft Compile and submit at the completion of each project Project Closeout Support the closeout process Scheduling Scheduling Understands the scheduling process and is gaining experience in the current standard software (Primavera P6) Involved in scheduling best practices Participate in the Strobel Planning process Master Schedule 6 week 3 week 1 week Equipment Schedule Indirect Schedule Manpower Curves Project Document Control: Ensuring that all engineering drawings, specifications, and other necessary documentation received at the job site are correctly received, dated, filed, and distributed. Making certain that drawings are delivered to the appropriate Craft Superintendent prior to physical placement of work Develop and maintain document control log Manage revision control process Ensuring that all engineering drawings, specifications, and other necessary documentation received at the job site are correctly received, dated, filed, and distributed Ensure redlines/as‑builts are being maintained and assembled for final turnover to client Construction Management Software: Developing proficiency of Strobel’s Construction Management Software, Pronovos. Is adept at using the following modules Project Dashboard Change Management Process Enters project Change Requests through Executed Change Orders Document Control Module RFI Submittal Transmittal Meeting Minutes Correspondence Issue Average Labor Rate Reports Unit Rate Reports Develop proficiency in using Exaktime, Strobel Time Management software Request for Information (RFI) Processes Identify needed RFI’s, compose with recommended solution and submit per the project specifications Distribute client responses as appropriate Field Change Order Processes Identify, track and submit out of scope work Prepare change order pricing (lump sum estimate, time and material, etc) Contract management Contract Management: Know the provisions, terms and scope of the Prime contract. Maintain a contract notice/deliverables list identifying milestone commitments and any documentation requirements Contract Management Read and understand the project contract Identify key terms and conditions (Notice requirements, payment terms, LDs, Milestone requirements, Change Order Process, etc.) Separate and disseminate contract scope documents to applicable field leadership Manage and communicate with Customer on Change Order Requests Coordinate review of any revised contract documents for potential change orders (include scope drawings) Communicate with customer contract schedule requirements (updates, changes, etc.) Coordinate contract required submittals (material, RFI, notices) Support closeout process (Punch list, contractually required closeout documents) Support development of the final turnover documents (warranty plan, liens, insurance, construction turnover documents) Administering Accounting/Job Costs/Work in Progress (WIP) Updates: Assist with these activities as a qualified person, who will ensure they are performed accurately and on time Development and Preparation of Schedule of Values and Invoices: Participate and assist Project Manager with process Manage schedule of values and billing process Oversee contract billing through final billing and retention release Oversee and manage back charges to subcontractors and venders Budget Process Manage the budgeting process of taking the Estimate and converting it to the Strobel’s Standard Phase codes, following the rule of thumb guidelines (i.e. no phase code with more than 1,000 hours) Forecasting Process (Work in progress reporting) With the support of project lead or Ops Manager accurately update the forecasting process for assigned cost categories Subcontract and Procurement Management Subcontract Administration and Management: Assemble drawings and specifications to support the process of obtaining bids from qualified subcontractors, selecting a qualified candidate, and negotiating the subcontract. As the work progresses, the Project Superintendent may be called to act as a liaison between the project team and the subcontractor Subcontract Administration and Management Able to assemble scope of work for each specific subcontractor Understanding and communicating key terms of the subcontract (LDs, Payment, Prime pass through) Receive, review and compare proposals in a bid tab format Assemble final subcontract agreement and attachments for submittal to Corporate Support final subcontract negotiations Receive and approve subcontract schedule of values and construction schedule Lead onsite kickoff meeting with each subcontractor prior to mobilization Receive and approve subcontractor invoices and track progress Manage required subcontract communications (Notices, delays, scope changes) Manage subcontract change requests Conduct final contract scope and administrative close out (Punch list, warranty, liens) Approve final payment and financial close out in Spectrum of each subcontract Complete and return subcontractor evaluation form Procurement Monitor the procurement process on the project Oversee material buyout take offs from issued for construction drawings Interact with Superintendents for buy out and equipment rental needs Review purchases with the Sr. Project Engineer or Project Manager Set up and manage receiving, inventory control, and Overage, Shortage, and Damage Reports Manage expediting process Review unapproved invoices and manage blanket PO draw downs Manage onsite material issuing and control Technical Abilities AutoCAD and 3d modeling Show ability to operate AutoCAD viewers, print screen sections, add and remove layers Show ability to operate 3D/BIM viewers, print screen sections, add and remove scope layers Microsoft Office Have ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), generate word documents and understand and create Excel documents Have ability to use Zoom and Microsoft Teams for conducting virtual meetings, training sessions, and webinars with teams and clients Specifications and Drawings Able to read and understand standard specifications and drawings Experience Have demonstrated success as a Senior Craft Superintendent for a minimum of 2 projects Manage up to 7 direct reports Lead/direct a field crew of 100 people 10 years of experience Equal Opportunity Employer, including disabled and veterans. #J-18808-Ljbffr
