Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 18 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum two years in Labor and Delivery License: Current RN license in state of practice Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course Must-Have: - NRP - ACLS - BLS - AWHONN Advanced Description: The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for planning and providing nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. This includes managing emergency situations and circulating for C-sections. The nurse supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel. The role requires an Associate Degree or equivalent in Nursing. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred. Essential functions include performing physical and psychosocial assessments that reflect knowledge of age and cultural differences. The nurse initiates multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. Demonstrates clinical judgment in managing perinatal emergencies such as crash C-sections and precipitous deliveries. Competently assesses fetal and maternal well-being and recognizes abnormalities. Effectively manages pain control in laboring patients, implementing alternative methods as appropriate. Assists with epidural catheter placement and monitors maternal and fetal status during and after medication administration. Educates patients and families throughout the perinatal and postpartum periods, using culturally appropriate methods. Completes accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided. Performs necessary safety and quality control checks as required. Additional job-related duties may be assigned. This position is committed to the safety and well-being of associates and patients.
