Family Engagement Coordinator

Serves as a district-level leader in family and community engagement under the direction of the Superintendent. The position strengthens district-wide systems, programs, and partnerships that support equitable student outcomes and meaningful family collaboration.

The Family Engagement Coordinator also provides confidential support to the Superintendent on matters related to district operations, employee relations, labor relations, collective bargaining, and administration of collective bargaining agreements. In this capacity, the position may assist with preparation, research, organization, communication, documentation, and follow-through related to sensitive matters and exercises independent judgment in handling confidential information.

The position serves as a liaison between district leadership, families, employees, and the broader community. The role centers on building trusted relationships across diverse communities while advancing the district's strategic goals around equity, access, and belonging. The position represents the district in community spaces, supports leadership and communication at the systems level, and helps elevate family and community perspectives in district decision-making.

The Family Engagement Coordinator works independently, exercises sound judgment, maintains appropriate confidentiality, and adapts to the evolving needs of families, schools, the community, and district leadership.

Listed salary will be pro-rated for part-time hours.

Essential Functions

Under the supervision and direction of the Superintendent or designee, the position performs some or all of the following duties:

Family and Community Engagement

• Serves as a liaison between district leadership and the broader community, building relationships and ensuring two-way communication that informs district planning, policy, and decision-making.
• Leads district-wide outreach, communication, and engagement efforts with culturally, racially, and ethnically diverse families, including home visits, focus groups, family events, and community meetings.
• Maintains a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to meet with families and community members at times that are accessible and responsive to their needs. Work often adapts based on need rather than a fixed duty schedule.
• Develops and oversees implementation of the district's Family Partnership Action Plan in alignment with strategic goals, grant requirements, and board priorities.
• Facilitates the Family Partnership Action Team, bringing together families, school staff, administrators, and community members to co-lead initiatives focused on equity, achievement, access, and belonging.
• Partners with the Teaching & Learning and Student Services departments to integrate family engagement practices into district-wide professional learning, curriculum initiatives, and school improvement efforts.
• Builds staff and leadership capacity across schools to support inclusive and strengths-based family partnerships.
• Provides insight and input to the Superintendent and district leadership regarding community needs, systemic barriers, family concerns, and opportunities for deeper engagement.
• Represents the district in community settings and develops relationships with community organizations, agencies, and other external partners.

District Leadership and Confidential Support

• Provides confidential support to the Superintendent on sensitive district matters, including employee relations, labor relations, collective bargaining, administration of collective bargaining agreements, organizational planning, and other matters requiring discretion.
• Assists the Superintendent with preparation for meetings and discussions involving labor relations, employee relations, collective bargaining, and contract administration.
• Researches, gathers, organizes, and summarizes information for the Superintendent related to collective bargaining agreements, employee relations, district practices, and other sensitive organizational matters.
• May participate in meetings or discussions in a confidential support capacity and may communicate information or follow-up actions as directed by the Superintendent.
• Exercises independent judgment in determining the appropriate handling, organization, communication, and safeguarding of confidential information and identifies matters requiring the Superintendent's direct attention.

Program and Grant Responsibilities

• Develops, coordinates, and monitors grant-funded family engagement initiatives.
• Coordinates with external partners and agencies as needed to support district initiatives and family engagement goals.
• Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports related to family engagement programs, grants, partnerships, and district initiatives.
• May perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to and receives direction from the Superintendent or designee.

Works closely with district administrators and departments and may collaborate with employees, families, community organizations, external agencies, and other district partners.

The position is non-represented and will perform confidential functions on behalf of the Superintendent involving labor relations, collective bargaining, and sensitive employee or organizational matters.

Physical Demands

• May require prolonged standing or sitting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Fluent oral and written communication in the Spanish language.
• Training and/or experience working in student, family, community, employee, or organizational support strongly preferred.
• Experience working with confidential information and exercising sound judgment in sensitive situations strongly preferred.
• Experience working in a school district, public agency, or community-based organization preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to support the Superintendent with organization, research, preparation, and follow-through related to employee relations, labor relations, collective bargaining agreements, and other sensitive district matters.
• Understanding of the social, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of families and the impact of culture on family organization, communication, and values.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees, administrators, families, community members, and external partners.
• Ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Strong organizational, data management, and reporting skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills.
