As we push the boundaries of X‑ray generation and detection technology - including photon counting detector (PCD) based CT - we are growing our algorithm team to match the pace of our innovation. About the Role We are seeking a talented and technically rigorous Algorithm Engineer to join our photon counting CT (PCCT) imaging algorithm team in Solon, Ohio. You will own algorithm development across the full CT imaging pipeline: from raw photon counting detector data correction and spectral calibration, through advanced image reconstruction, to AI‑driven post‑processing and clinical application development. This is a hands‑on research‑and‑engineering role requiring both theoretical depth and practical implementation ability. You will work closely with detector physicists, system engineers, clinical scientists, and radiologists to bring novel algorithms from prototype to clinical product. Key Responsibilities Develop and optimize photon counting detector correction algorithms: pulse pileup correction, charge sharing correction, electronic noise suppression, energy bin calibration, gain/offset nonuniformity correction, and count rate linearity correction. Model and correct CT system‑level artifacts: beam hardening, X‑ray scatter estimation and correction, ring artifact suppression, bad pixel handling, and geometric calibration. Implement and optimize CT reconstruction algorithms. Develop spectral reconstruction algorithms including projection‑domain and image‑domain material decomposition, K‑edge subtraction imaging, and virtual monoenergetic image (VMI) generation. Design, train, and validate deep learning–based imaging algorithms. Build robust training pipelines using clinically realistic CT simulation, physics‑informed data augmentation, and domain generalization strategies. Translate clinical imaging tasks into algorithmic solutions: quantitative iodine/calcium mapping, virtual non‑contrast (VNC) imaging, K‑edge contrast agent imaging, small lesion detectability optimization, and dose reduction. Evaluate algorithm performance using clinically meaningful metrics. Required Qualifications PhD in Medical Physics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field. Solid understanding of X‑ray interaction physics. Familiarity with CT acquisition geometry, sinogram formation, sampling theory, and Fourier‑domain reconstruction. Working knowledge of CT image quality metrics: MTF, NPS, CNR, DQE, and task‑based detectability. Strong foundation in linear algebra, optimization theory (convex and non‑convex), and statistical estimation (MAP, ML, Bayesian inference). Proficiency in signal processing: Fourier analysis, filter design, noise propagation modeling, and regularization theory. Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB for algorithm prototyping, numerical simulation, and validation. C/C++ experience for performance‑critical implementation is a significant plus. Familiarity with GPU‑accelerated computing (CUDA, cuDNN) for reconstruction or training workloads is a plus. Demonstrated experience developing and training deep neural networks for image processing or reconstruction tasks. Understanding of loss function design, regularization, and training stability issues specific to medical imaging. Location Solon, Ohio (Cleveland metropolitan area).
