Job Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Oncology PCU

Unit Information

Join a dynamic team within a Medical Oncology unit featuring progressive care beds and pediatric patients. The unit offers high acuity care with a focus on infection prevention and patient safety protocols.

Schedule

Selected applicants will implement a rotating 12-hour day/night schedule, where shifts may include days, nights, or a combination based on departmental needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every four weeks, though changes cannot be guaranteed.

Special Procedures/Unit Details

The unit houses 36 beds, with over 24 designated for PCU level of care. Pediatric patients are rare and will typically be managed by permanent staff, hence pediatric experience is not a requirement for agency Registered Nurses.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience, including at least 1 year in a progressive care unit (PCU).
• Current certifications required: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and NIH Stroke Scale.
• Patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:4-5 for Med-Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU.
• Ability to float within units of equal or lower levels of acuity.
• Prior travel experience is preferred.

Skills Required

• Interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Ability to effectively utilize rapid response teams
• Feeding tube care and management
• Accessing ports and managing blood products
• Care for central and peripheral lines, including PICC management
• IV starts and Heparin protocols
• Management of cardiac drips (no titration required)
• PCA management
• Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
• External CPAP/BIPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) application
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) and management of tracheostomies

Skills Preferred

• Management of dysrhythmias and IV insulin protocols
• Titration of insulin drips
• Phlebotomy and administration of chemotherapy
• Wound care, including management of Wound Vac
• Arterial line and surgical drain management
• Non-invasive airway management techniques
