Assistant Coach - Softball

DESCRIPTION

The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Softball Coach. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students and is one of the University of California's 10 campuses. UC San Diego Athletics sponsors 24 varsity sports and is a member of the Big West Conference. Triton Athletics consistently ranks among the top 10 nationally in the Learfield Director's Cup in 19 of the past 23 years. This vital 12‑month contract position offers full benefits. The Assistant Coach must commit to a competitive Softball program that emphasizes integrity and the educational welfare of its student‑athletes while striving for athletic excellence. The Coach must follow the athletic philosophy of the UCSD Athletic Department and demonstrate a commitment to diversity in all forms. The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach in recruiting, organizing and conducting practices, preparing scouting reports, conditioning programs, utilizing video tagging software, and coordinating competitive and fundraising events. Administrative responsibilities include scheduling, budgets, inventory, coordination of team, professional and recruit travel, and team equipment purchases. The Coach will prepare statistical analysis and reports, coordinate contests, events, and tournaments, and maintain compliance with NCAA regulations. All activities will be conducted in compliance with NCAA, Big West, and UC San Diego rules and regulations. The work schedule will be arranged with the Head Coach and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's Degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics, and to understanding the needs of students balancing academic and athletic requirements. Recruiting experience at a D1 level with student‑athletes who are at a high academic and high athletic level. Demonstrated ability to teach the specified sport to individuals and the team as a whole. Ability to follow the work schedule as outlined by the Head Coach and department. Strong proven knowledge of sound principles and rules governing the specified sport. Personal experience with the specified sport. Demonstrated experience in coordinating and instructing camps of the specified sport. Proven ability to use all athletic equipment and computer software programs needed to perform job duties. Ability to utilize video tagging software to analyze critical moments in games by athletes and opponents and communicate those to the coach(es) and team. Proven ability to provide statistical analysis and reports regarding the specified sport. Ability to complete forms thoroughly and keep them current. Strong writing skills to prepare clearly understandable correspondence and reports. Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility. Outstanding leadership, management, and interpersonal skills to relate to a wide diversity of faculty, staff, students, and community members. Ability to speak before large and small groups with evident poise and enthusiasm and effectively motivate team members. Strong administrative and organizational skills, with ability to follow up and review, to ensure that no details are overlooked and that all arrangements have been made.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

A background check is required. Must maintain NCAA certified recruiter status. Must maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification. This position is a mandated reporter of known or suspected child abuse or neglect, according to California law, Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA). This position is a campus security authority (CSA) for the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which is a federal law requiring disclosure of information about crimes on and around campus.
