Job Scope :
The Credit Manager is responsible for overseeing company-wide credit operations and ensuring effective risk management across the entire customer portfolio. This role evaluates the creditworthiness of new and existing customers by reviewing financial statements, credit reports, trade references, payment histories, industry trends, and economic conditions. The position establishes and maintains appropriate credit limits, conducts periodic reviews of high-exposure accounts, monitors accounts receivable aging and DSO metrics, and identifies deteriorating accounts so timely risk-mitigation actions can be taken. The role maintains and enforces division credit policies and procedures, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls, and maintains documentation standards to support audit readiness, including responding to customer requests for lien waivers and releases. The position oversees credit insurance policies and coverage decisions, manages relationships with credit reporting and collection agencies, and reports portfolio health to senior leadership. It also supervises escalated collection efforts, approves payment plans, settlements, and write-offs, and coordinates recovery actions with Legal when necessary. Working closely with Sales, Legal, and Purchasing, the role balances revenue growth with credit risk, supports contract and security-instrument reviews, and responds to supplier requests for signed credit applications. In addition, the position leads, develops, and supports a team of regional credit managers and support staff by establishing performance metrics, promoting accountability, and fostering a high-performing team environment.
Responsibilities :
- Evaluate the creditworthiness of new and existing customers using financial statements, credit reports, trade references, and payment histories.
- Establish, monitor, and adjust customer credit limits based on risk exposure and business needs.
- Conduct periodic credit reviews of high-exposure accounts and assess changing customer risk profiles.
- Maintain and enforce division credit policies, procedures, internal controls, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging, DSO metrics, and overall portfolio health.
- Identify deteriorating accounts and implement appropriate risk-mitigation and recovery strategies.
- Oversee escalated collections and approve payment plans, settlements, and write-offs.
- Manage credit insurance coverage decisions and relationships with credit reporting and collection agencies.
- Partner with Sales, Legal, and Purchasing to balance revenue growth, contract requirements, security instruments, recovery actions, and supplier credit documentation.
- Lead, develop, and manage regional credit managers and support staff while establishing performance expectations, accountability standards, and team objectives.
- Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Basic Qualifications : College degree or equivalent experience in a related job function. Office environment with minimal physical exertion.
Preferred Qualifications : Requires comprehensive knowledge of the building materials industry, typically more than ten (10) years in related job function; advanced degree, customer relationship management experience and branch/location experience a plus.
