Inspect, test, sort, sample, or weigh non-aerostat raw materials or processed, machined, fabricated, or assembled parts or products for defects, wear, and deviations from specifications; evaluates documentation, performs laboratory procedures, measures process performance, records data and prepares reports. May use precision measuring instruments and complex test equipment. Level B is an inspector competent to perform all areas of practice with modest supervision and support – a Level B inspector can handle back shift, off-day or remote site shift semi-independently where immediate access to higher quality assurance authority is unavailable.

Working Procedure:

Documenting/Recording Information — Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form.

• Attach or mark identification onto products or containers
• Record test results, test procedures, or inspection data
• Detect and correct (or report) errors or omissions in inspection/test data or records
• Using a calculator or computer for assistance, correctly perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; determine averages, percents, minimums and maximums; assess conditions of less-than, greater-than and equal-to; understand decimal places/precision

Getting Information — Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.

• Read blueprints
• Read and understand procedures and work instructions
• Read specifications
• Read technical drawings
• Read work order, instructions, formulas, or processing charts

Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material — Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

• Conduct performance testing
• Examine products or work to verify conformance to specifications
• Inspect manufactured products or materials
• Assess consistency of production quality

Monitoring Processes, Materials, or Surroundings — Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.

• Maintain safe work environment
• Monitor production machinery/equipment operation to detect problems
• Monitor work to enforce standards

Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates — Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events — Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.

• Distinguish colors of lights and objects
• Appreciate attributes of paint and coatings
• Grade, classify, or sort products according to specifications
• Recognize characteristics of solid raw materials (alloys/metals, plastics, wood)
• Sort manufacturing materials or products
• Understand engineering data or reports
• Understand measuring and monitoring devices
• Understand technical operating, service or repair manuals

Additional job duties include the following:

• Successfully complete training for and work to technical standards required by the work including AWS or IPC
• Recognize and avoid energy storage device and other hazards associated with electro-mechanical work and stop/report if unsafe
• Obtain Purchase Order (and any data package) or Manufacturing Order of items to inspect
• Obtain correct revisions and complete copies of drawings and specifications governing items to be inspected
• Determine the required amount and extent of inspection/test required from sampling plans and procedures
• Inspect items and record results as conformance or non-conformance
• Red-tag and segregate non-conforming items until released by proper authority
• Report inspection results to stakeholders and supervision
• Stop work and notify supervisors when non-conforming processes are detected or defective items are being produced
• Determine the completeness of assemblies and kits
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education Requirement: High School diploma or equivalent. Trade/vocational school certificate or completion of some technical college-level classes desired.

Experience Requirement: Five years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a related industry. Military experience comparable to industry experience is considered equivalent. Two years of inspection related experience required.

In compliance with state and local laws, the salary range for this role is $42,250 - $66,453. The range provided is a general guideline and good faith estimate representative of all experience levels but is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. TCOM considers several factors when extending an offer including, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, a candidate's experience, education/training, key skills, internal equity, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
