RECREATION THERAPIST

Recreation Therapist Laurel Heights Hospital is a 112‑bed facility located in Atlanta, GA that provides psychiatric treatment to children and adolescents with a broad range of behavioral disorders and autism. The facility operates a multidisciplinary team that partners with youth and family to achieve therapeutic goals. Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards Reports to the Recreation Therapy Manager. Leads evening and weekend programming, planning, and facilitation of on‑campus and off‑campus activities. Obtains information from medical records, staff, families, and patients to assess capabilities, needs, and interests. Observes, analyzes, and records youth participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions, adjusting programs as needed. Conducts therapy sessions to improve mental and physical well‑being. Collaborates with treatment team members to plan and evaluate therapy programs. Develops treatment plans that meet each patient’s needs based on assessment and youth interests. Encourages youth with special needs to acquire new skills and engage in life‑promoting activities such as sports, games, music, arts, and gardening. Instructs youth in techniques like sports, gardening, dance, music, art, or relaxation strategies tailored to their physical or psychological needs. Plans, organizes, directs, and participates in treatment programs to facilitate rehabilitation, community integration, and prevention of further medical problems. Prepares and submits reports and charts to the treatment team, documenting patient reactions and evidence of progress or regression. Schedule: 11 am to 7:30 pm. Weekends may be required. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy. Experience in recreational therapy or a related mental health field. Experience in group activity planning and facilitation. Safe driving record. Physically able to lead groups. Experience working with adolescents in a mental health residential treatment program (preferred). Customer service skills and effective written and verbal communication. Driving a van/bus‑style vehicle. Diagnostic skills and knowledge of mental illness and its treatment. Knowledge of safety, risk management, and emergency procedures. Certified in CPR/First Aid procedures. Experience with behaviorally disordered children/adolescents, preferably those with Autism Spectrum Disorders or related developmental disability. Licensure/Certification CRTS or eligible to obtain certification within 1 year of employment. Must complete CPR certification, age‑specific training, and, if necessary, lifesaving certification within 90 days of employment. Employee must have a valid Georgia Driver's License. #J-18808-Ljbffr
