Staff Registered Nurse - ObGyn/Urogynecology (Clear Lake)

Staff RN – Houston Methodist At Houston Methodist, the Staff Registered Nurse (RN) position functions at the Competent to Proficient stage of Benner's model of clinical practice. The Staff RN provides professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, provides clinical triage, patient education, and maintains medical records. The RN delivers direct patient care effectively and efficiently for patients with varied and complex needs. The role communicates and collaborates with physicians and the interprofessional health‑care team to facilitate, coordinate, and maintain compassionate, efficient, quality care and achieve desired treatment outcomes, during and after care. The staff RN demonstrates clinical competence when providing care using technology, administering medications, performing procedures, and managing emergencies, acting as a patient and family advocate to monitor and maintain patient rights. The RN uses leadership skills and clinical judgment to coordinate patient care and delegate activities of the patient care clinical team, and may serve as a preceptor for new employees and contribute to initiatives in partnership with management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Experience: One year of nursing experience in a healthcare environment. Licenses and Certifications: RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure – Texas Board of Nursing / PSV Compact Licensure (must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days if establishing residency). BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association. Skills and Abilities Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, as determined through ongoing skills and competency assessments. Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary to perform essential functions, especially with regard to patient or employee safety. Effectively communicates with patients, physicians, family members, and co‑workers in a customer‑service‑focused manner. Strong assessment, organizational, and problem‑solving skills, with the capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and role components. Functions independently and exercises judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team, patients, and family. Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act. Demonstrates proficient time‑management skills. Works with Microsoft products including Outlook. Essential Functions People: Uses therapeutic communication to establish relationships with patients, families, and the interprofessional health‑care team; collaborates on the plan of care; contributes to teamwork by being aware of patient flow, offering assistance, and responding positively to requests for assistance; fosters healthy work‑environment relationships; seeks and provides guidance to the interprofessional team. Service: Follows patient and family‑centered care standards; conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, documents medical records; advocates on behalf of patients and families to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concerns; coordinates with the interprofessional team to facilitate a holistic, goal‑oriented approach to care across the continuum; manages electronic health record communications impacting care plans. Quality / Safety: Follows standards related to the nursing process, regulatory requirements, and professional practice; identifies practice improvements with research‑based evidence to achieve quality measures and patient safety outcomes; provides and modifies care for complex patients and coordinates care based on assessment; improves quality and safety scores through peer accountability and reporting of near misses; operates all required equipment safely, prepares, assembles, sterilizes instruments and supplies per standards; ensures exam rooms are stocked and equipment is clean and tested. Finance: Manages time effectively, documents care promptly, minimizes overtime, prioritizes daily tasks; contributes to meeting department financial targets by optimizing efficiency; manages storage of patient products and inventory efficiently. Growth / Innovation: Champions new care pathways or service line implementations; identifies trends and presents improvement opportunities; leads evidence‑based practice projects; updates development plan and discusses career path with management. Supplemental Requirements Employees may be required to be on‑call during emergencies (e.g., disaster, severe weather events) regardless of selection below.
