Director of Development – Budget Title: Director of Fundraising (SL-5) Salary: $105,000 - $120,000 (commensurate with experience) Binghamton University Advancement welcomes candidates for the position of Director of Development based in Binghamton, NY. The Division of Advancement fuels the strategic priorities of the University by building lasting relationships with alumni, philanthropic partners, and others in our campus community to inspire support, investment, and pride for the University. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development, this full‑time frontline fundraiser will join a growing major gift team that is poised to achieve a record‑setting fundraising year. The Director will play a pivotal role in securing philanthropic support by building and managing a portfolio of high‑capacity prospects, growing and sustaining long‑term donor relationships, and collaborating with faculty and university partners to inspire transformative giving. Work Location: Eligible for a hybrid work arrangement: remote two days per week and on‑campus three days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke, or terminate the arrangement at any time. Job Responsibilities Build and manage a portfolio of 100–120 prospect households, comprised of a mixture of unqualified, new, and long‑term donors, to secure major gifts. Regularly solicit and close gifts of various sizes, aiming to increase gifts of $100,000–$1,000,000 while encouraging annual giving, multi‑year commitments, and estate gifts. Travel extensively within assigned geographic regions (up to 40% of staff time) to qualify new prospects and cultivate and solicit existing ones; be available to work nights and weekends as needed. Complete a minimum of 120 strategic meetings with prospective and existing donors annually. Articulate the vision, mission, goals, and core values of the University to constituents. Participate in a comprehensive major gift program by facilitating active relationships for assigned prospects with University partners and matching funding needs with prospects’ interests. Involve University leadership, faculty, and staff in strategy development and prospect activities to create multiple points of contact for each prospect. Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and gift documentation in accordance with university fundraising policies. Serve as a resource to fellow gift officers, contributing to prospect strategy development and stewardship initiatives. Formulate and implement strategies for short‑ and long‑term giving outcomes, being accountable to performance metrics. Follow budget guidelines regarding expenditures incurred in major gift fundraising for effective and efficient use of resources. The successful candidate will be a proven fundraiser who believes in the public higher education mission of Binghamton University, is results‑ and people‑oriented, and possesses an attention to detail. The candidate will also have proven communication skills with an ability to write and speak persuasively about the role of educational philanthropy. Extensive travel and some night and weekend work are required. Requirements Bachelor's Degree Minimum 3 years of experience in non‑profit fundraising or relevant experience with strategic relationship management in fields such as corporate sales, financial services, or business development Demonstrated success in closing five‑ and six‑figure gifts and managing complex donor relationships Knowledge of fundraising principles and best practices Ability to travel extensively (up to 40% of time) and work evenings and weekends as needed Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline‑driven environment Preferred Experience Related advancement or development experience in a higher education environment, non‑profit setting, or equivalent combination Experience with fundraising software Knowledge of planned giving techniques and vehicles Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
