EHS Specialist

Advics Manufacturing Ohio

Provide pro-active leadership of all company environmental, health and safety programs. Ensure team member, contractor, and guest safety through the enforcement of company safety rules. Conduct environmental monitoring and reporting, assist with internal and external ISO 14001 compliance audits, ensure facility compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other federal and local regulations and guidelines. POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Promote a strong EHS culture focused on engagement, awareness, and proactive risk management. Organize and conduct EHS-related training, such as Powered Industrial Truck, new employee orientation, lockout/tagout, and contractor orientation. Maintain training documentation for tracking purposes. Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and company policies by reviewing and updating programs, staying abreast of regulatory changes and performing internal audits. Ensure required records, permits, and reports are maintained and prepared according to guidelines established by the company and local, state and federal agencies. Serve as main contact and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies as required. Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate-based reporting systems. Recommend improvements and standardization to practices and procedures to ensure safe and healthy work conditions and maintain the right to operate (environmental compliance). Safety & Worker’s Compensation Identify unsafe acts and/or conditions and recommend ways to improve safety performance to meet safety goals. Lead monthly Safety Roller Patrol activities, ensuring engagement of all team members and management members involved, and implementation of corrective and preventative actions. Maintain informational signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions. Lead investigations of incidents and near misses, ensure corrective actions are completed to minimize future exposure, and maintain required documentation and online reporting systems. Responsible for the administration and compliance of workers' compensation program. Report all workers’ compensation claims to the insurance carrier, providing all requested case information and documentation for the duration of the claim. Coordinate immediate and follow-up care for team member with occupational health providers and ensure team member compliance with doctors’ visits, orders, and/or physical therapy. Active participant of the Environmental Management System (EMS) and related programs, trainings, and compliance efforts. Maintain waste manifests, compile environmental reporting and coordinate the handling/ removal of hazardous materials and waste. Review hazard communication standards and ensure all material Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are current. Implement, administer, and advise the business on hazard control programs. Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices and develop hazard control designs, methods, procedures and programs and coordinate activities to ensure corrective and preventative actions are implemented. Active participant of the Carbon Neutral Committee, and key leader of carbon reduction activities, programs, etc. Perform annual ISO 14001 internal audits of the EMS as a certified internal or lead auditor. KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in occupational safety and health (preferred), with 2-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment. A combination of education and related experience will be considered. Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, required. Preferred knowledge of OSHA, EPS, and other regulations including safe work practices, emergency response, hazardous materials, air permitting, and worker’s compensation. Problem Solving – Anticipates problems; see how a problem and its solution will affect other units; gathers information before making decisions; weigh alternatives against objectives and arrives at reasonable decisions; adapts well to changing priorities, deadlines and directions; works to eliminate all processes which do not add value; is willing to take action, even under pressure, criticism or tight deadlines; takes informed risks; recognizes and accurately evaluates the signs of a problem; analyzes current procedures for possible improvements; notifies manager of problems in a timely manner. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions (e.g., working around moving machines in production facilities) and protective clothing or gear such as safety glasses, gloves and safety shoes is required.
