Mechanical Project Engineer

Overview The Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for reviewing designs, developing system processes, and supporting project execution. The role ensures that systems are effective, cost-efficient, and meet customer specifications. Key Responsibilities Review sketches, designs, and customer specifications to ensure compliance and cost efficiency. Assist the Project Manager in organizing, supervising, and monitoring engineering activities. Schedule and facilitate equipment concept and proposal review meetings with cross-functional teams. Create, review, and track process deliverables. Facilitate internal and customer reviews throughout project phases. Coordinate with design vendors, engineering departments, and cross-functional teams. Support manufacturing kick-off meetings and advise on customer requests and specifications. Monitor release of all drawings through the business system. Respond to inquiries from build suppliers and shop personnel regarding engineering issues. Ensure "As Built" and Non-Conformance updates are maintained on project drawings. File and maintain component information and drawings. Schedule and review FMEAs/ERGO's during design phases when required. Review Controls Line-ups for accuracy and completeness. Collect and assess information related to Engineering Changes and support cost negotiations. Monitor and report engineering progress to the Project Manager. Adhere to safety, environmental, and quality system requirements while participating in continuous improvement. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Controls, or related field) OR 3–5 years related experience in BIW, Chassis/Glass, Special Welding, etc. 5–10 years of experience in automation design. Knowledge of Powertrain or equivalent engineering discipline preferred. Competence in: Controls engineering and mechanical design (force analysis, standardization, processing, CAD, cause/effect, R&M, SPC, FMEA). Reviewing CAD models (NX or SolidWorks required). Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Skills & Abilities Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and technical manuals. Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer and internal presentations. Solid mathematics skills including geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistics. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Ability to work effectively under changing priorities and project demands. Strong customer-facing technical communication skills. Other Information Travel: 20–25% (mostly day trips in Michigan & Ohio; limited travel to Canada/Mexico). Must have a valid passport. Willingness to work 50–55 hours per week when workload requires. Strong potential for contract-to-direct hire.
