Aon is looking for a Director, Data Solutions – Consulting & Professional Services Sector – United States

Aon is in the business of better decisions

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.

As an organization, we are united through trust as one inclusive team, and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

Data Solutions, a unit of Aon’s Talent Solutions North America practice, is seeking a Director to help build and grow our Consulting & Professional Services sector within our talent data solutions business! This role will focus on standing up and scaling new strategic sub‑sectors and supporting existing sub‑sectors such as Accounting, Management Consulting, Legal, Financial Advisory and related professional services segments.

The ideal candidate for this role is someone with extensive compensation and/or rewards consulting experience in or around professional services, strong data and analytical skills, and a track record of independently developing client relationships, originating and closing data product and advisory sales, and leading complex client engagements. This person will also play a key role in developing our more junior colleagues.

In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of multiple client engagements, working with a team in the delivery of high-quality client solutions. You will also play an important role in developing the technical/consulting skills of our team members, especially in the areas of job architecture and career leveling frameworks, modelling cash compensation programs and equity compensation to align with our client’s business and HR strategy.

Position Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary client‑facing Director for Consulting & Professional Services sector clients and prospects, independently managing senior‑level relationships.

  • Originate, structure, and close sales of Aon’s talent data products and rewards advisory services, with accountability for individual and team sales targets.

  • Support the stand‑up and growth of new strategic sub‑sectors (e.g., specific consulting, legal, accounting or advisory niches) within the broader Consulting & Professional Services portfolio, including defining go‑to‑market approaches, value propositions and offerings.

  • Support and expand existing Consulting & Professional Services sub‑sectors, such as Accounting, Management Consulting, Legal, Financial Advisory and related segments, identifying opportunities to deepen and broaden our engagement with key clients.

  • Create trusted relationships with clients at senior levels. Help to extend or expand existing work to sell the client on other Aon consulting services and data products. Resolve client issues with timelines, quality or project team performance to the client’s satisfaction.

  • Support the end‑to‑end management and execution of RMCD data products, including data ingestion, validation, and quality review.

  • Support the strategy and ongoing evolution of the RMCD job structure, leveraging industry trends and deep understanding of your Consulting & Professional Services sub‑sectors.

  • Lead multiple small to medium sized projects independently and act as 2nd chair and day‑to‑day contact on larger, complex projects. Administer projects successfully, including scoping, budgeting, billing and invoicing.

  • Represent Aon at client conferences and industry forums, presenting compensation and human capital trends in the Consulting & Professional Services sector.

  • Contribute to Talent Solutions content development through innovative ideas with clients, off‑the‑shelf consulting or research products, or methods to improve team effectiveness. Play a leading role in contributing to Talent Solutions research, an article or white paper or applied content to a speech or webcast.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop more junior colleagues, including providing feedback, overseeing day‑to‑day work, and supporting their career development.

Desired Knowledge and Expertise

  • A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a related field (e.g., business, economics, finance, human resources, industrial/organizational psychology, data analytics or similar).

  • A master’s degree or MBA is not required but preferred.

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in relevant work experience, with significant exposure to Consulting & Professional Services sectors such as Accounting, Management Consulting, Legal, Financial Advisory, IT Consulting or related professional services.

  • Recent compensation or rewards consulting experience is required, ideally at a major compensation consulting firm or within a leading professional services organization.

  • Experience in one or more of the following is a strong plus:

  • Compensation / rewards consulting at a major firm

  • Corporate compensation experience in professional services.

  • Professional services sector experience in accounting, management and IT consulting, law, financial advisory, strategic comms, executive search.

  • Demonstrated success originating and closing consulting and/or data product sales and independently leading client engagements.

  • The ability to travel as requested by clients; potentially up to 25% of the time.

  • Demonstrated ability to partner and build strong collaborative relationships with internal department leadership.

  • Strong decision-making and interpersonal skills working in a fast-paced consulting environment often with very quick deadlines.

  • Advanced knowledge of employee compensation strategy, design, and implementation issues, including base pay, short‑ and long‑term incentives and career architecture.

  • Knowledge of Aon’s compensation databases and platforms (e.g., Radford / McLagan) is preferred.

  • Advanced consultative skills, including relationship building, opportunity origination, process definition and meeting facilitation.

  • Excellent hands‑on project management experience and strong analytical skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word and PowerPoint) and advanced skills in Excel.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with all levels within the company and with senior clients.
