Position Overview We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Principal Scientist to support the development of advanced molecular diagnostics technologies. The role requires expertise in preparative chromatography and analytical techniques throughout the product development lifecycle. Responsibilities Synthesize, purify, and characterize complex nucleotides, phosphoramidites, oligonucleotides, analogs, and related small molecule reagents. Drive process optimization to enable efficient scale‑up and successful product launches. Support and utilize analytical methods for characterizing reagents, reactions, and assay performance across R&D and Operations. Design and execute advanced troubleshooting experiments independently and collaboratively with cross‑functional teams. Develop assays that push system limits of understanding and error detection to ensure robust designs. Manage knowledge handoffs between prototype methods and transfer documentation from research to development and manufacturing. Act as a subject matter expert to provide technical depth across R&D departments and operations. Qualifications Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Medical Chemistry, or related field with at least 2–3 years of industry experience; or a Master’s degree with 5+ years of industry experience. Demonstrated expertise in UPLC/HPLC, ion‑pair chromatography, ion‑exchange, advanced mass spectrometry, absorption spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. In‑depth knowledge of synthetic methods for nucleotides, phosphoramidites, and oligonucleotides, including post‑synthetic modifications. Strong understanding of PCR methodologies and modified oligonucleotides (dye‑ and non‑natural modifications). Strong experience in purifying and characterizing oligonucleotides and small molecules. Proven experimental design skills, especially in developing and optimizing sophisticated analytical assays for oligonucleotides and PCR. Preferred Excellent technical writing and documentation skills, producing clear analytical reports. Proactive problem‑solving, growth mindset, and collaborative workplace culture engagement. Interpersonal skills: strong verbal communication, influencing without authority, and experience building partnerships with key stakeholders. Compensation & Benefits Salary range for Pleasanton, CA: $111,000 – $206,500, based on experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Possible discretionary annual bonus.
