68P Radiology Specialist

Job Description Soldiers use radar to scan the battlefield and detect enemy threats. As a Radiology Specialist, you'll use medical equipment to scan your fellow Soldiers for a different kind of threat: injuries and illness. Radiology (the use of X-rays) is one of the many tools doctors use to detect health problems. Working with Medical Corps Officers, Army National Guard Radiology Specialists operate X-ray and X-ray-related equipment to perform radiographic examinations. Radiology Specialists also prepare, assemble, and adjust X-ray instruments and materials, and assemble and disassemble radiology equipment and shelters. Job Duties • Perform body section radiography, foreign body localization, prenatal, pediatric, urogenital, and radiographic examinations of the digestive, respiratory, vascular, and nervous systems • Operate fixed and portable radiology equipment • Inspect and perform operator maintenance on radiology equipment Some of the Skills You'll Learn • Patient care in radiology • Medical ethics and law • Human structure and function • Principles of radiation protection • Field radiography Helpful Skills • Interest in algebra, biology, and other sciences • Strong attention to detail • Ability to follow strict standards and procedures • Enjoy helping others Through your training, you will develop the skills and experience to enjoy a civilian career as an X-ray technologist or a nuclear medicine technologist with civilian hospitals, diagnostic clinics, and medical laboratories. You may also be able to specialize in other radiology disciplines and obtain certifications through continued study and experience. Job training for Radiology Specialists consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 46 weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Training consists of both classroom and field work.
