This position ensures grant funds are managed in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), grant agreements, and organizational policies. The Grants Accountant works closely with program managers, leadership, and external funders to support accurate budgeting, financial reporting, reimbursement requests, and audit readiness. Duties & Responsibilities Grant Financial Management Establish and maintain grant accounts within the accounting system. Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with grant budgets and funding restrictions. Review expenditures for allowability, allocability, and reasonableness. Track grant spending and identify potential budget variances. Prepare accurate and timely financial reports required by grantors. Submit reimbursement requests and drawdowns in accordance with grant requirements. Reconcile grant activity to the general ledger monthly. Assist with month-end and year-end closing related to grant activity. Prepare journal entries related to grant transactions. Maintain detailed supporting documentation for all grant activity. Participate in budget related activities related Ensure compliance with grants/contracts Maintain documentation for grant audits and monitoring visits. Assist with the organization's Audit. Recommend improvements to grant accounting processes and internal controls. Serve as liaison for assigned grants. Work closely with program directors to review expenditures and reporting deadlines. Provide financial guidance to program staff regarding allowable costs. Respond to grantor financial inquiries. Perform other duties as assigned. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required. CPA preferred. 3-5 years of non-profit accounting experience is preferred. Experience working with nonprofit accounting, grant allocations or cost centers. Experience utilizing accounting data within an ERP system, extracting and formatting ERP data exports and managing organized paperless records; Blackbaud NXT ERP knowledge is a plus. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a plus. Experience with Non-Profit Grant Accounting, Required Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills, Required Skills & Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to professionally represent the Organization and interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent analytical skills. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, non-profit regulations, and financial reporting standards. Maintain confidentiality of corporate information. Essential computer skills and expert software knowledge of QuickBooks, Adobe, MS Excel, Word, Outlook; with knowledge of Blackbaud NXT and Paycom a must. Integrity, credibility and commitment to the Organization’s mission Working conditions This position follows a traditional Monday–Friday work schedule, with occasional evening and weekend hours required based on program or organizational needs. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate alternative work hours when such events occur, ensuring a balanced approach to meeting both operational requirements and employee well-being. Physical requirements Work is primarily performed in a traditional office environment; however, this position may occasionally require event setup and breakdown, including moving tables, chairs, and other equipment.
