We are a mission-driven community committed to educational excellence, Jewish values, and continuous improvement.Position OverviewAkiba Yavneh Academy is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Staff Accountant to join our Business Office. This role has primary responsibility for monthly financial reporting and plays a key role in accounts receivable and tuition management. The Staff Accountant will also work closely with administrative staff who manage payroll and accounts payable to ensure accurate, timely, and complete financial information across the school.This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys ownership, structure, and working in a collaborative school environment.Key ResponsibilitiesMonthly Financial Reporting (Primary Responsibility)Prepare and deliver accurate monthly financial statements and internal management reportsManage the monthly close process, including journal entries and account reconciliationsAnalyze and explain variances to budget and prior periodsEnsure financial data integrity and adherence to internal controlsAccounts Receivable & Tuition ManagementOversee accounts receivable with a focus on tuition billing, collections, and reconciliationsPartner with admissions and business office staff to ensure accurate tuition setup and adjustmentsMonitor outstanding balances and support appropriate follow-up with familiesReconcile tuition and A/R accounts regularlyCollaboration & Financial SupportCollaborate with administrative staff responsible for payroll and accounts payable (without direct processing responsibility)Review payroll- and A/P-related reports for proper posting to the general ledgerSupport year-end close, audits, and financial compliance activitiesGeneral Accounting & Process ImprovementMaintain organized financial records and documentationIdentify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and reportingProvide additional accounting support to the Business Office as neededQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field2+ years of accounting experienceDemonstrated experience preparing monthly financial reportsStrong understanding of general ledger and accounts receivable accountingProficiency with accounting software and Microsoft ExcelStrong attention to detail, organization, and follow-throughAbility to work collaboratively and communicate clearly with non-financial stakeholdersPreferred QualificationsExperience in an independent school or nonprofit environmentFamiliarity with tuition management or student information systemsAdvanced Excel skillsWhy Join AYAMission-driven, values-based school communityCollaborative and supportive work environmentOpportunity for ownership and impact within the Business OfficeCompetitive compensation and benefits
