ED Tech/Unit Coordinator, Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, ED, Part-time, 7a-7p

Job Description The Emergency Department Tech/Unit Coordinator provides clinical patient care support in a caring, safe, and efficient manner, under the direction of an RN. The employee also performs clerical duties, admits and discharges patients in multiple computer systems, conducts phlebotomy, places EKG leads, assists in trauma care, and performs respiratory functions. Essential Functions Measures and documents intake and output, heights and weights, and vital signs Applies, monitors, and documents restraint usage Performs safety checks per standard on high-risk patients Obtains timed cardiac markers for patients with life-threatening heart disease Verifies all patients are registered by an admission specialist before discharge and corrects any errors in the system Documents patient mobility, exercise, comfort, rest, and sleep care needs Documents patient hygiene, grooming, dressing, skin and nail care, dietary, and toileting and elimination needs Transports patients, lab work, specimens, and blood Organizes equipment and supplies; assembles equipment; cleans and disinfects equipment; maintains disinfectant solutions per infection control policies; communicates with biomedical engineering for equipment malfunctions Stocks trauma room in preparation for trauma patients Applies non-sterile hot/cold packs, bandages, elastic stockings, etc. and documents usage Safely and correctly operates equipment (beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, hypo/hyperthermia unit, mechanical lifts, bath scales) Performs venipuncture for specimen collection under RN direction; labels and ensures delivery to the Clinical Laboratory Performs routine 12-lead electrocardiography testing under RN direction Assists RN or RT with placement of nasal cannula Assists MDs and NP/PAs with procedure set-ups, including sterile fields Transcribes and enters physician orders, department orders, and messages accurately into the computer; pages consults as needed; locates providers for consults as required Sets up admission charts and disassembles discharged and transferred charts, ensuring completion Performs safety checks on equipment and performs QA/QC on point-of-care testing machines Updates patient file and hospital billing system with information necessary for the collection cycle; obtains patient/guarantor signatures for release of information Ensures accurate assignment of patient’s medical record number per patient information received Ensures that ordering, attending, referring, and primary care physicians are documented correctly in the hospital computer system (SMS) Provides care/support to patients with orthopedic injuries (splinting, crutch training, and assistance to physician) Performs wound care irrigation Other Functions Responds appropriately in lifesaving situations Handles desk communications promptly, including intercom, pages, and routing of messages to appropriate persons Safeguards patient clothing and valuables Tracks equipment and supplies; notifies relevant parties of broken or lost equipment and missing supplies Adheres to universal precaution, infection control, OSHA, and other regulatory policies and procedures; maintains safe work practices Assists with admitting, physical examination, transferring, and discharging patients Receives incoming and provides outgoing reports Assists in orientation of new employees as needed Uses A.I.D.E.T. when communicating with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, and customers Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times Performs other duties as assigned Education High School diploma or GED/equivalent (required) Completion of a recognized Clinical Assistant, Medical Assistant, or EMT training program, or nursing students who have completed a Fundamentals of Nursing Course from an accredited school of nursing (preferred) Experience Previous experience in ED (preferred) Certification Certification as a Nursing Assistant (C.N.A), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (preferred) Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required) #J-18808-Ljbffr UofL Health
