We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join our bankruptcy practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in bankruptcy and debtor/creditor law and will be responsible for representing individuals and businesses throughout all stages of bankruptcy proceedings. The Associate Attorney will work closely with clients, trustees, creditors, opposing counsel, and the courts while managing a caseload and handling matters involving Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy, with opportunities to gain experience in Chapter 11 and related debtor/creditor matters. Responsibilities ● Represent debtors in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases. ● Conduct initial client consultations and evaluate potential bankruptcy options. ● Prepare and review bankruptcy petitions, schedules, statements, plans, motions, and related pleadings. ● Analyze clients’ financial circumstances, including assets, liabilities, income, expenses, and creditor claims. ● Communicate regularly with clients regarding case status, requirements, deadlines, and available legal options. ● Prepare clients for and attend 341(a) meetings of creditors, hearings, and other court proceedings. ● Draft and respond to motions, objections, notices, and other bankruptcy pleadings. ● Review and address objections from Chapter 13 trustees and creditors. ● Prepare, amend, and negotiate Chapter 13 repayment plans. ● Handle issues involving secured and unsecured creditors, exemptions, priority claims, liens, and claims objections. ● Research and analyze applicable provisions of the Bankruptcy Code, Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, and local bankruptcy rules. ● Communicate and negotiate with trustees, creditors, creditor’s counsel, and other parties. ● Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with court deadlines and filing requirements. ● Manage an assigned caseload while maintaining high-quality client service. ● Identify potential legal issues and recommend appropriate strategies to supervising attorneys and clients. ● Assist with adversary proceedings, contested matters, and other bankruptcy-related litigation as appropriate. Qualifications ● J.D. from an accredited law school. ● Active license to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction. ● Strong interest in bankruptcy and debtor/creditor law. ● Excellent legal research and writing skills. ● Strong oral advocacy and communication skills. ● Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and competing priorities. ● Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. ● Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients and opposing parties. ● Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. ● Ability to work independently while also collaborating with attorneys and support staff. Preferred Qualifications: ● Prior bankruptcy experience, including Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 practice. ● Experience appearing in bankruptcy court. ● Familiarity with the Bankruptcy Code and Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure. ● Experience drafting bankruptcy pleadings and motions. ● Judicial clerkship or litigation experience. ● Experience using bankruptcy case-management or electronic court-filing systems.
