Staff Software Engineer

Role Description

The RealReal is looking for a highly experienced and self-motivated Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack) to join our Sales & Retail team. Working closely with Product partners and Engineering management, you will build technical solutions enhancing, optimizing, and iterating the RealReal’s Sales & Retail platform to support TRR’s sales and retail associates with tooling, and enable seamless customer experiences in sales and retail channels.

• Lead the architecture and development of software solutions, making strategic decisions that influence our technical direction.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to align technology development with business objectives, effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Perform rigorous code reviews and advocate for best coding practices to ensure our products are efficient and maintainable.
• Provide guidance and support to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and contributing to a culture of excellence.
• Research emerging technologies and trends in software engineering, identifying opportunities to enhance our projects and processes.
• Address complex technical challenges with innovative solutions, anticipating potential issues to ensure smooth project execution.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of software development experience.
• Required experience with Java and Ruby.
• Proven experience with the development, scaling, and maintenance of distributed systems.
• Solid understanding of software engineering principles, architectural design, and agile development methodologies.
• Excellent analytical abilities and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to work independently on complex issues.
• Effective communication skills, capable of conveying complex ideas clearly and concisely.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
• 8+ years of software development experience with a track record of successfully shipping consumer or business-facing products (preferred).
• Experience with Elixir is a plus.
• Familiarity with Front-end JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, etc.).
• Familiarity with Gradle and Spring Boot.
• Familiarity with Python.
• Familiarity with AWS.
• Contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub portfolio.
