General Job Description:


Under the general supervision of the local superintendent, the principal assumes administrative responsibility and overall instructional leadership for the public school assigned, including the discipline of students and the planning, operation, supervision and evaluation of the educational program of the school.

Work Schedule:


Contract Days: 210

Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in Education
2. Possess or qualify to possess a valid New Mexico Educational Administrative License.
3. Nine years certified experience in a school system, to include a minimum of five (5) years teaching experience.

Performance Responsibilities:


In addition to other duties prescribed by law, the school principal shall:

1. Recommend to the local superintendent the employment, promotion, transfer, discharge, and termination of school employees at the assigned school;
2. Evaluate the performance of school employees and develop professional development plans or job improvement plans to assist school employees to improve;
3. Take disciplinary action against school employees;
4. Develop a proposed budget for the public school, with input from the school council, and submit it to the local superintendent;
5. Perform other duties assigned by the local superintendent to implement policies of the local school board;
6. Enforce all laws and rules applicable to the school, district, or educational program of the state agency;
7. Exercise supervision over students on property belonging to the public school;
8. Furnish all reports as required;
9. Comply with state approved Code of Ethics of the educational profession.
