Director, Human Resources

We are seeking a Director of Human Resources for a multi-location specialty retail organization based in Southern California. This is a hands-on leadership role with six direct reports. The ideal candidate understands that strong HR is a revenue driver — by building a motivated, compliant, and high-performing team across retail locations and corporate. Key Responsibilities Lead overall HR strategy and operations, including employee relations, compliance, benefits, and risk management Oversee complex workplace investigations (harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and policy violations) Manage workers’ compensation claims in partnership with carriers, TPAs, and legal counsel Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (strong California focus) Maintain and update employee handbook, policies, and procedures Oversee 401(k) administration and HRIS/reporting systems Partner with leadership on immigration compliance and related risk Serve as a strategic advisor to managers on employment issues, documentation, and corrective action Drive a culture of accountability, motivation, and performance that supports business results Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred 8+ years of progressive HR experience with strong emphasis on legal compliance and risk management Minimum 5 years of experience in retail operations Bilingual English/Spanish required (additional languages a plus) Proven experience conducting complex investigations and managing workers’ compensation Strong knowledge of California employment law Experience with HRIS/HCM systems and Microsoft Office 365 Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment that may include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed Annual salary range: $160,000 - $185,000 (commensurate with experience and skills) Full-time, Exempt 100% onsite at the Southern California corporate office #J-18808-Ljbffr
