The reporting location is Mount San Jacinto State Park, located at 1 Tramway Road, Palm Springs, CA 92262.The Interpretive Park Aide works under the immediate supervision of the State Park Interpreter III, and alongside other interpretive staff.

The Inland Empire District consists of Lake Perris State Recreation Area, Chino Hills State Park, California Citrus State Historic Park, Mount San Jacinto State Park, Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area, Providence Mountain State Park, San Timoteo Canyon State Park, and Wildwood Canyon State Park. All parks listed are managed by a State Park Superintendent V and further organized into the following functions: Visitor Services, Aquatic Services, Maintenance Services, and Administrative Services.

This position is part of a team that provides quality interpretive service at the Mountain Station side of Mount San Jacinto SP. Duties include but are not limited to daily operations of the Mount San Jacinto Visitor Center (Mountain Station), including housekeeping, assisting with planning and conducting of interpretive programs, including school tours, Junior Ranger programs, and roving interpretation. Will also assist the State Parks Interpreter I with community outreach, volunteer management, recordkeeping, and special events, and various public contact.

Park Aides are expected to work most weekends, holidays, and some evenings. This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1 . This position is designated as not telework eligible. Duty hours may vary based on operational need. This position requires the wearing of a uniform, provided by the incumbent. Great customer service skills are essential, as are good organizational and time management skills.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver's license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

Working Conditions


The Interpretive Park Aide reports to the Mt San Jacinto SP Visitor Center located at the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and may also report to the Idyllwild campground nearby as needed. Incumbent must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Incumbent required to work outdoors as well as indoors and have the ability to provide regular walking routes throughout the park. Ability to conduct regular easy/moderate walking tours. Wearing of the State Parks uniform provided by the incumbent is required. Excellent communication, public speaking, and teaching skills.
