The Vice President for Academic Affairs provides essential leadership for all learning functions of Western Wyoming College. The Vice President is responsible for overseeing the development, review, and updating of academic and instructional support programs. The Vice President is responsible for all instructional programs, including transfer, career and technical, and developmental education. This position is responsible for ensuring standards for academic excellence, accreditation and compliance with applicable laws and regulations, as related to student learning.
The Vice President works with the President to provide strategic direction, administrative and operational oversight of the academic affairs of the College, including the formulation and provision of academic programs that meet the needs of the students and communities the College serves.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :- Direct and support overall performance and achievement of learning and graduation outcomes.
- Provide leadership to foster and facilitate the cooperative and cohesive operation of student learning. Promotes and assures high quality instruction and instructional support.
- Serve as the Chief Academic Officer developing and implementing both short -term and long-term plans for academic services.
- Provide academic leadership in the areas of curriculum development, academic governance, new program development, regional and programmatic accreditation, scheduling, planning, budgeting, and orderly cost control management techniques to maintain adherence to the College strategic plan, mission, vision and goals.
- Represent the college to connect with community organizations and businesses to facilitate economic and workforce development.
- Effectively organize, supervise, and evaluate all academic resources and services to provide an engaging and supportive teaching and learning environment.
- Plan, develop, and implement innovative initiatives in order to provide an effective and supportive teaching and learning environment.
- Work closely with academic committees and community advisory committees, responding to recommendations and reviewing membership and charges annually.
- Demonstrate ability to make decisions in a collaborative and timely manner.
- Direct the continuous improvement efforts in student learning through academic research, staff development, assessment of academic achievement efforts, and implementation of a systematic review of instructional programs.
- Ensure that necessary academic records are accurate, meet necessary guidelines, and filed appropriately.
- Serve on the Cabinet to advise the President on academic policy development, budget, institutional review, and strategic planning.
- Remains current on trends in higher education curriculum and instructional methodology and makes recommendations regarding new programs and strategies.
- Lead the development of college-wide policies and procedures related to academic services and ensures that academic policies and procedures are congruent with one another and the college's strategic plan, mission, vision, values and goals.
- With the Cabinet, allocate and manage instructional budgets.
- Direct the recruitment and selection of academic affairs staff and recommends the employment of qualified candidate(s) to Human Resources.
- Facilitate the professional development of personnel through coaching, mentoring and referrals to professional development/training opportunities.
- Supervise department and functional managers (direct reports) to include providing leadership, direction and guidance, evaluation, coaching and mentoring.
- Attend monthly Board meetings and prepare and present reports as needed.
- Represent the college at state level meetings, professional meetings, and conferences in the area of academic affairs.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with business, government agencies, high schools, other community colleges, and universities to facilitate the planning and delivery of academic affairs.
- Operate within the scope of and complies with Western policies, procedures and practices.
- Performs other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Earned Master's degree.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible, successful management, supervisory administrative and budgetary experience at the dean level or above in a community college or other higher education institution is required.
- Three (3) years, full-time community college teaching experience.
- Experience or training in curriculum and awareness of current issues in curriculum or post-secondary learning.
- Possess a valid driver's license and be insurable by the College's insurance carrier.
Equivalency Statement
For those candidates who do not exactly meet all minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be accepted.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Doctorate degree in educational administration, community college leadership or other related discipline
- Five (5) years, full-time community college teaching experience.
- Experience in academic master planning, including new program development.
- Responsibility for community and business partnership development.
