General Counsel – Investment Management Firm

Our client, a prominent multi-strategy investment management firm based in Salt Lake City, is seeking a talented and experienced General Counsel.

This person will serve as the principal in-house legal advisor to the firm with activities spanning across private equity, private credit, wealth advisory, real estate, hedge funds and more – an ideal opportunity for an exceptional attorney interested in a highly strategic in-house role with substantial visibility and responsibility.

The General Counsel will be expected to operate as a practical counselor and strategic partner, with responsibility spanning transactions, fund and investment matters, governance, regulatory and compliance issues, commercial contracts, and support for new business initiatives.

Core Responsibilities

• Serve as the firm’s primary in-house legal advisor across investment, advisory, operational, and strategic matters; supervising and supported by a range of specialized outside counsel.
• Advise on securities, investment matters, fiduciary, governance, conflicts, marketing, and all regulatory and compliance-related matters.
• Coordinate and review legal work on specialized questions relating to investments across private equity, private credit, real estate, wealth advisory and hedge funds.

Desired Experience, Knowledge and Attributes

• J.D. from a top law school and strong academic credentials.
• A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant, transferable corporate legal experience.
• Meaningful experience in one or more of the following: private equity, private credit, investment funds, secondaries, real estate, registered investment adviser matters, hedge funds, M&A, or sophisticated corporate transactions.
• Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams with discretion and sound judgement.
• Executive leadership presence and the ability to interact effectively with senior executives, founders, principals, clients and key stakeholders.
