What You’ll Do Perform preventive, corrective, and general maintenance on County‑owned buildings, facilities, and equipment. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical, plumbing, pipefitting, heating, cooling, refrigeration, and other building systems. Conduct inspections to identify maintenance needs and ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and efficient. Respond to routine and emergency maintenance requests in a timely manner. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and work orders. Install, repair, and replace building equipment, fixtures, and system components. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and materials used. Coordinate work with contractors, vendors, and County staff to support facility operations. Utilize current Countywide and department‑specific software applications to document work and complete assignments. Minimum Qualifications High school graduate or GED. At least two (2) years of full‑time work experience in commercial building maintenance involving one or more of the following mechanical/electrical trades: electrical, plumbing‑pipefitting, heating, cooling and refrigeration; or a related recognized facilities or building mechanical trade. Valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license. Pass complete examination, including employment medical, established for this classification. Successfully complete the six‑month probationary period. SUPERVISION EXERCISED May provide orientation, training and assistance to lower level maintenance employees. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Perform maintenance and repair duties in one or more of the facilities or building mechanical specialties including electrical, plumbing/pipefitting, heating, cooling and refrigeration, and other related work to maintain County facilities, utilities and properties. Inspect, test and perform scheduled preventive maintenance programs in County facilities to ensure the efficient operation of building systems including electrical, gas utilities, steam, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and all system controls. Utilize current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments. ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain materials, tools and equipment to ensure that they are in proper operating condition. Assist higher level maintenance employees or contractors in performing the more difficult skilled work in major building and mechanical maintenance projects including electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, and other work performed on County facilities. Prepare work areas by erecting temporary structures, moving furniture, materials and equipment and removing unused material and equipment. ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to communicate accurately to convey information. Ability to use equipment required to perform skilled craft jobs. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and/or be a passenger. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in variable weather conditions, confined spaces and areas of loud noises. May be exposed to machinery and equipment that could affect health conditions. May be required to travel to other locations during the course of work.
