Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Radiation Oncology Manager, administers ionizing radiation to the cancer patient in accordance with the prescribed parameters specified by the Radiation Oncologist. Performs other related duties as specified.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE CRITERIA (Percent of Time)

Essential Functions: The Following are essential job accountabilities and performance criteria:

Position Accountabilities

1. Localizes under general direction for the radiation physicists and radiation oncologists, simulates and verifies treatments. (1,2,3,4) 25% Criteria A. Takes initial diagnostic quality scout localizing films of the probable treatment area. B. Marks the patients as directed for the verification film and treatment. C. Exposes verification film using all of the parameters of an actual treatment except the amount of radiation. D. Duplicates specified diagnostic films, generates department folders and maintains appropriate filing. E. Compiles treatment information creating a technical treatment chart. F. Assists physics in obtaining contours, measurements and compensating filters. G. Knowledgeably explains the purpose of immobilization to patients and independently constructs appropriate devices. (i.e. Aquaplast masks,Alpha Cradles).

2. The licensed clinician will ensure that each patient's status is assessed to determine the patient's care needs and to ensure patient's needs are reassessed in response to treatment and care provided. 25% Criteria A. Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient's identification. B. Explains treatment procedure to patient. C. Reinforces the Radiation Oncologist's advice to patient regarding radiation reactions and their care. D. Reproduces technical information (i.e. machine settings, appropriate physics applications, additional immobilization). E. Directs patient to nursing or physician when physical or emotional concerns are to be addressed.

3. Observe patients for unusual reactions or events. (5,6 ) 10%

4. Responsible for observing the proper operation of the treatment equipment and accessories. Observe the daily schedule to make certain that the department operates efficiently. 10%

5. The licensed clinician will ensure that each patient's status is assessed to determine the patient's care needs and to ensure patient's needs as reassessed in response to treatment and care provided." 10%

6. Demonstrate ability to relate to coworkers in a professional and respectful manner, in order to assure and promote a culture of safety. 5% Criteria A. Calibrates and performs quality management mechanical checks before daily patient treatments. B. Performs spot checks as indicated by radiation physicist or supervisor. C. Report deficiencies to the radiation physicist or supervisor.

D. Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. 7. Attends all departmental meetings. (6) 5%

8. Continuing education. (5,6) 5% Criteria A. Available to attend educational programs related to duties or job performance. B. Be available to instruct any group in subjects relating to technical radiation oncology. A. Appropriate refers to special needs, information which the patient and/or family may have.

7. Participates in maintaining a clean environment. 5% Criteria A. Picks up trash when observed. B. Adheres to Safety and Inspection Control policies and procedures. C. Notifies Environmental Division and Building Services when safety and infection control problems are identified.

8. Demonstrates effective communication. Criteria D. Listen. E. Ask questions. If the answer is not known seek out individuals who do know. F. Avoid healthcare jargon. G. Provide information in a respectful, clear, concise, and timely manner. H. Use a tone of voice which demonstrates a caring attitude and willingness to help.

9. Demonstrates confidentiality. Criteria A. Avoid gossip. B. Obtain facts before discussing issues, problems or concerns. C. Discuss confidential information in private. D. Stop rumors when presented. E. Maintain proprietary information in a secure place.

Job Specifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION : High School, Associates Degree preferred, Bachelors Degree preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: New graduates welcome

Required Course: CPR preferred

CERTIFICATION: ARRT (RTT)

WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to blood and body fluid. Exposure to blood borne pathogens and other biological hazards. Subject to varying or unpredictable situations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to stand for and walk for long periods of time. Ability to lift, push, and pull 100 plus pounds. Ability to move or transfer patients. Ability to deal with strenuous and physical Activity daily in lifting, pulling, pushing, patients, radiographic Equipment cassettes and/or supplies.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS State of Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin

• Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
