Industrial Specialist III – Metal Fabrication Production Supervisor Role Overview: The supervisor oversees the metal fabrication manufacturing operations. Responsibilities include monitoring inmate production, ensuring quality and quantity, maintaining equipment, and conducting safety training. Essential Functions Monitor inmates in their assigned tasks, develop production standards, and recommend procedural changes. Ensure quality and quantity control of finished products, monitor machinery and equipment maintenance. Conduct on‑the‑job and safety training for inmate workers on methods and equipment used in the factory. Prepare reports of operations and related documents. Maintain security of tools, machinery, and equipment; respond to emergency situations; assist in maintaining security of assigned inmates. Perform other duties as assigned as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience High‑school diploma, GED, or equivalent. One year full‑time, wage‑earning metal fabrication experience. Three years full‑time, wage‑earning experience in any production or manufacturing operation. Correctional custody or law enforcement experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of quality control standards to maintain satisfactory production levels. Knowledge of production and workflow procedures. Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations (preferred). Knowledge of methods and procedures for metal fabrication and metal properties (preferred). Ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely. Ability to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public. Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Problem‑solving skills. Training and supervising inmates skills. Use of machinery and equipment in the assigned area (preferred). Additional Requirements Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, twist, reach above shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. or more; perceive depth; operate a motor vehicle and motor equipment. Work in environments inside, around machines with moving parts, moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, excessive heat and noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, grease, oils, solvents, and travel by car, van, bus, airplane. Use equipment such as computer, calculator, copier, fax, telephone, welding equipment, oxygen‑acetylene torch, sheet metal fabrication equipment, air rivet gun, power grinders, sanders, staple guns, paint equipment, cloth cutter, iron workers equipment, hand saw, hand tools, power tools, air tools, forklift, pallet jack, dolly, and automobile.
