National Grid is hiring a Senior Data Analyst (Gas Engineering). This hybrid role is located in our Waltham MA location.

Job Purpose

Responsible for advancing data management maturity, analytics capabilities, GIS utilization, and technology enablement across Gas Asset Management & Engineering (GAME). The role leads and supports efforts to improve asset data quality, governance, system connectivity, risk model utilization, automation, and reporting while advancing the strategic use of Snowflake, GIS, Enterprise Maximo, and related platforms.

The primary focus is to connect people, processes, data, and technology to create trusted, analytics-ready information that supports risk-informed asset management, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and measurable business value.

Key Accountabilities

• Drive improved utilization of connected data across Snowflake, GIS, Enterprise Maximo, risk model platforms, reporting environments, and other relevant systems.
• Define business and analytical requirements for data integration, interoperability, pipelines, interfaces, and reusable data models.

• Identify data silos, reconciliation points, and manual handoffs; partner with IT and data engineering teams to implement sustainable improvements.

• Promote end-to-end traceability from source data through analytical outputs and business decisions.

• Expand the use of GIS from mapping and visualization to spatial analysis, workflow enablement, asset intelligence, and decision support.

• Develop geospatial analytics supporting asset management, risk models, leak management, integrity activities, regulatory needs, and capital planning.

• Improve GIS data quality, attribution, connectivity, topology, location accuracy, and usability in partnership with data owners and GIS teams.

• Design reusable GIS-enabled tools, maps, dashboards, analyses, and automation that improve engineering and operational workflows.

• Identify processes where coding, automation, integration, low-code tools, or emerging technology can remove non-value-added work and improve control effectiveness.

• Design, code, test, document, deploy, and maintain reusable scripts, applications, workflows, and analytical tools using approved technologies.

• Automate data extraction, transformation, validation, quality checks, GIS analysis, reporting, and repeatable business processes.

• Develop proofs of concept and pilots; define value, controls, support needs, and transition paths for scalable solutions.

• Apply sound development practices including modular design, version control, testing, documentation, monitoring, and knowledge transfer.

• Develop advanced analysis, dashboards, KPIs, and executive scorecards that support asset, risk, investment, compliance, and operational decisions.

• Perform data profiling, root-cause analysis, trend analysis, and scenario analysis to identify risks and improvement opportunities.

• Create repeatable analytical processes and self-service capabilities that improve consistency, speed, and transparency.

• Translate complex data into clear findings, recommendations, and decision-ready stories.

• Engage stakeholders to define business outcomes, requirements, priorities, success measures, and sustainment needs.

• Communicate analytical findings, data risks, solution options, and technology opportunities to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Develop business cases, roadmaps, recommendations, and implementation plans for leadership consideration.

• Act as a trusted advisor connecting the business, data, GIS, and technology communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, GIS, or a related field
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, data strategy, engineering analytics, GIS, automation, or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience delivering analytics, reporting, coded solutions, automation, or technology-enabled business improvements
• Experience working with enterprise data platforms, complex datasets, and cross-functional stakeholders
• Experience leading workstreams, projects, requirements development, or continuous improvement initiatives

Knowledge, Experience & Technical Know How:

• SQL; Power BI; Snowflake; advanced Excel; data modeling; data governance; data quality management
• Python; scripting; APIs and web services; Git/version control; Power Apps; Power Automate
• ArcGIS Pro; ArcGIS Enterprise; ArcPy; spatial analytics; Enterprise Maximo; utility asset data
• ETL/ELT concepts; data pipelines; system interoperability; Azure data services
• AI and generative AI applications; machine learning fundamentals; intelligent document extraction; risk analytics platforms such as Synergi or equivalent

Salary

$111,000 - $130,000 a year
