The Manager, Medical Coding leads a high‑performing coding team to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely assignment of ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, DRG/APC, and HCC codes across inpatient, outpatient, ED, pro‑fee, and telehealth encounters. The Manager, Medical Coding oversees daily work queues, staffing, and scheduling; conducts concurrent and retrospective coding audits and quality reviews; resolves coding edits, NCCI/MUE issues, and payer denials to protect revenue integrity; partners with CDI, Billing, Revenue Integrity, and Clinical teams to optimize documentation and charge capture; develops policies, workflows, and education aligned with CMS, OIG, and payer guidelines; monitors KPIs for productivity, accuracy, DNFB, and case‑mix; performs physician query oversight and escalation; stays current on code set updates and LCD/NCD changes; manages encoder and EHR workflows (e.g., 3M/Optum, Epic/Cerner) and month‑end close activities; recruits, trains, and coaches staff (CCS, CPC, RHIT/RHIA preferred); analyzes trends to reduce denials, improve risk adjustment, and drive operational excellence across the revenue cycle.
